CBS has committed to an original historical drama series about the 16th century Hungarian countess and infamous serial killer, Elizabeth Bathory. Deadline reports the series, Bathory, comes from the creative team of David Eick, formally an executive producer for Battlestar Galactica, and producer Joel Silver.
Known as the “Blood Countess,” Bathory has quite the evil reputation. She maintains the record for “most prolific female murderer” with the highest number of victims estimated at 650. In folklore and popular culture, she is most often depicted as a vampiric figure, bathing in the blood of young women in order to retain a youth-like appearance. For centuries, she’s been the inspiration behind several works of literature, film, music, and even video games. However, this will be the first time her story will be set on the small screen.
No news yet on the project’s airdate.
What do you think? Will this subject make a good TV series?
This sounds phenomenal & for CBS to be showing this, WOW! Quite a change for this somewhat staid network so it seems Mr Moonves is branching out in order to compete with some of the other networks (i.e., A & E, AMC, History, Starz, etc.). I hope this will be publicized on the station as well so it will be well received by an audience.
Sounds like a great idea. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction so lets see how this pans out. I can’t wait to see it!
Love historical shows, and this one sounds really good! Don’t make us wait to long!
I read these tales for years! Can’t wait!!
Please make sure to let us know when it will air… Sounds good ..
