ABC is kicking it, old school. The network has ordered a new TV show pilot, Dream Team, written and executive produced by Will & Grace‘s Bill Wrubel and Kari Lizer. Lizer created The New Adventures of Old Christine, which was cancelled by CBS after five seasons.
Wrubel worked on Ugly Betty, which was cancelled by ABC after its fourth season. He has also executive produced and co-executive produced ABC’s hit sitcom, Modern Family.
Here is how Variety describes the Dream Team TV pilot:
[Dream Team] centers around Marty Schumacher who coached his last club soccer team for ten years, ultimately taking them to the national championships — and now, he has to start from scratch with a diverse group of eight-year-olds and their disparate parents.
The single-camera, half hour comedy landed a hefty pilot production commitment during the development cycle, making the hot project nearly a sure thing. Hailing from Lizer’s Logo Here shingle and Wrubel’s Here Comes Scrappy banner, “Dream Team” hails from Warner Bros. TV where both creators are under deals.
The Hollywood Reporter says, “The comedy is inspired by Lizer’s experiences as a soccer mom on weekends and landed a pilot-production commitment at ABC following a competitive situation with other networks bidding.”
Dream Team joins comedies Chunk & Bean and Square Roots, which were also just ordered to pilot by ABC. On a less humorous note, the Alphabet Network is developing Watergate, a historical drama about the 1970s political scandal that brought down US President Richard Nixon and Vice President Spiro Agnew.
Were you a fan of Will & Grace? Are you looking forward to these writers reuniting? How do you like the sound of the Dream Team TV show pilot? If it is ordered to series, will you watch it when it airs on ABC? Sound off in the comments.
