CBS has renewed most of its current lineup for the 2023-24 season with several renewals having been announced yesterday. However, the fates of East New York, Blue Bloods, and SWAT are still up in the air. Of the three, only Blue Bloods is produced solely by CBS’ production company, and ownership’s a key factor in the economics of network TV these days.
Per Deadline, negotiations are currently underway for Blue Bloods and SWAT to return for their respective 14th and seventh seasons.
With Blue Bloods, issues with budget cuts have delayed the decision for a renewal, but talks are now moving forward. Starring Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, Len Cariou, Marisa Ramirez, and Vanessa Ray, the Friday night drama follows the Reagans, a New York family with a history in law enforcement.
As for SWAT, negotiations have only just begun and there are no current issues that would make renewal unlikely. The police drama, which stars Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington, Kenny Johnson, David Lim, and Patrick St. Esprit, has seen an increase in viewership since moving to Friday nights.
East New York is a new series, and it is on the bubble. It’s produced by an outside studio and that doesn’t help its chances. CBS executives will decide on that series’ fate once the new series True Lies has been released and two other drama pilots have been produced. With so many renewals of established shows, there aren’t many timeslots left available for newer programming.
CBS has currently renewed 19 of its current shows for the 2023-24 television season — 48 Hours, 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Bob Hearts Abishola, CSI: Vegas, The Equalizer, FBI, FBI: International, FBI: Most Wanted, Fire Country, Ghosts, Lingo, NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, The Neighborhood, So Help Me Todd, Survivor, Tough As Nails, and Young Sheldon.
What do you think? Do you want to see more of these CBS dramas next season? Would you be upset if Blue Bloods, SWAT, and/or East New York were cancelled?
If I had to lose one it would be SWAT! Blue Bloods has lost some of it’s original edge but still really enjoy the family dynamics! I love the cast of East New York! Plus, it seems more like the “real” New York! Thank you!
I like East New York and SWAT. Watch those every week. Never got into Blue Bloods but I know others that watch religiously.
Keep Blue Blood
Would be very upset if East New York does not get picked up! It’s a great series that deals with the grittiness of NY in an honest and current fashion showing both sides of issues!!
PLEASE KEEP BLUE BLOODS & EAST NY!!
SCRAP SWAT, CSI, VEGAS, EQUILIZER AMAZING RACE. BLUE BLOODS & EAST NY WOULD UPSET ME BUT NOT ANY OTHER SHOW. THANK YOU!!!
Best show ever. Blue Blood is my favorite show. Please don’t cut it.
East New York is a great show. Please renew it.we Love watching the show.
Please renew East New York.
You can scrap NCIS: Los Angeles and give its spot to East New York.
At least, it has a storyline and characters to develop unlike NCIS LA. That has acquired too many characters after Nell and Beal left; losing Hetty too killed it dead for many.
Each episode we know where the arc is going on East New York instead, of the NCIS puzzle.
CBS announced weeks ago that this was the last season of NCIS: Los Angeles.
If CBS doesn’t renew East New York somebody is catching a serious eye jammy!!!!
East New York is ok but Blue Bloods 1st and SWAT 2nd
I enjoyed Blue Bloods immensely. I couldn’t wait to binge on Prime Amazon here in Australia. A stellar cast of actors bringing their characters to life.
I would love to see another season PLEASE!
Forgot to add… Blood Blood show re: cut Bach on time/ hours of Vaness Ray, wife of Jamie
Cut back Vanessa Ray time on the show to save $$.
I would be very upset if SWAT were taken off. Two of my favorites, NCIS-LA is being taken off and 2 years ago CBS took off NCIS-NEW Orleans and I am devastated. Paramount+ bring them back!!!
I want blue bloods to be renewed. It’s the only show I watch on Fridays. I love the characters also. Please renew.
