The men and women of the 74th Precinct won’t be back on the beat for the 2023-24 television season. CBS has cancelled any plans for East New York to have a second year.
A police procedural series, the East New York TV show stars Amanda Warren, Jimmy Smits, Ruben Santiago-Hudson, Kevin Rankin, Richard Kind, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Olivia Luccardi, and Lavel Schley. The story revolves around the officers and detectives of the 74th Precinct in the East New York neighborhood of Brooklyn. It’s a working-class neighborhood amid social upheaval while the early seeds of gentrification have been planted. Deputy Inspector Regina Haywood (Warren) is the newly promoted boss of the precinct who has family ties to the area. She’s determined to deploy creative methods to protect her beloved community with the help of her officers and detectives. Her team includes Chief John Suarez (Smits); training officer Marvin Sandeford (Santiago-Hudson); Detective Tommy Killian (Rankin); Captain Stan Yenko (Kind); Detective Crystal Morales (Rodriguez); trainee Andre Bentley (Schley); and patrol officer Brandy Quinlan (Luccardi). Regina Haywood has a vision. She and the squad of the 74th Precinct will not only serve their community – they’ll also become part of it.
The first season of East New York averages a 0.38 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 5.01 million viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM). In the live+7 day ratings, the series picks up nearly 40% more viewers.
CBS and the show’s studio, Warner Bros., had been in talks about a renewal for a while, and things were looking positive. However, the network reversed its decision to cancel SWAT today, and it’s believed that the two police shows had been essentially competing for the same spot on the 2023-24 schedule. Since SWAT has a more established track record and was doing slightly better in the ratings, East New York ended up getting cancelled.
The de facto series finale of East New York airs on May 14th. In the “Ruskin Roulette” episode, Haywood’s leadership is questioned after a tragic shooting close to home, and her relationship with Suarez is tested.
True Lies, another freshman drama from an outside studio, was also cancelled today.

It’s a real disappointment to hear East New York is being cancelled. I thought it was a quality show with a great cast and very good story lines.
I am so disappointed in CBS to cancel East New York It is a REALLY GOOD SHOW. I don”t think it has anything to do with ratings because you were going to cancel SWAT at 1st and then you changed your mind and decided East New York has to go It’s as though you are choosing to let go 2 REALLY GOOD shows that have lead roles held by Minorities But you saved Fire Country, NCIS LA and Blue Blood. Leave it CBS to cancel an outstanding diverse cop show. Each character brings life to ENY. CBS a top rated series as well two other shows. I can honestly say CBS better reconsider or the viewers will about the rest of shows their leaving.

Am very disappointed thst it has been cancelled. Really question those who are making the decisions.
It’s a shame CBS can’t handle these new shows and keep the old ones such as Blue Bloods that I love. They had to take a pay cut and then SWAT was reversed because of Shemar Moore …kudos to him for speaking up! I love and watch so many shows on CBS but now it’s a blood bath. You don’t know who will last. It’s poor that’s East New York was canceled. Get it right, what the viewers want and like.
East New York is a wonderful show. Please, please bring it back! It seems that all the shows for mature viewers get cancelled. I don’t understand your thought process!!

Cancel Blue Bloods and KEEP East New York. Blue Bloods has run its course and the repetitive weekly, nothing exciting, has gotten old. Like the cast. The 1st 3 seasons of Blue Bloods were exciting. Then got uninteresting. Please reconsider keeping East New York. This is my opinion.

When you have a good diverse show like East New York with good ratings why in the world does it get cancelled your secession makings don’t see quality when they see it very disappointed and disgusted
I am very disappointed, this is a good show and it’s not fair to cancel the show in order to keep SWAT. THIS IS REALLT SAD, CANCELING A GOOD SHOW
