A couple days ago, Eastwick series creator and executive producer Maggie Friedman said that she was “furious” over ABC’s cancellation of the series. She’s apparently had some time to think about her choice of words and regrets the statement.
Friedman wrote, “The other day, when we were discussing the cancellation of Eastwick, I misspoke in the worst possible way. The word ‘furious’ was poorly chosen by me. You had said to me that ‘the fans are understandably furious’ and so I agreed that I was too, but the truth is, I’m not.”
She continued, “I see that word now in print attributed to me and it’s very painful, because it seems to imply I am angry with ABC and nothing could be further from the truth. They treated me really well. I am not the least bit furious, with anyone. That’s simply not the kind of person I am. Yes, I’m sad about the show being cancelled, because it was creatively fulfilling and tons of fun to make and an amazing group of people, but I’m not angry.”
What do you think? Are you “furious” with ABC or just “sad” that Eastwick didn’t reach a bigger audience and was cancelled?

My wife and I love this show. As someone else stated earlier ABC finally gets a few good shows and they start cancelling the best ones in the first friggin’ season. I will definatly think hard before I get interested in another one of their shows. Assuming ABC ever gets another decent series. I agree with everyone else ABC YOU SUCK.
Maybe its budget cuts because I agree. The best shows are the ones that get cut first and we are left with the lame ones wondering who are the people watching them?
ABC sucks, they get you interested then they yank the bit out of your mouth.EASTWICK was very good, the could have at least close the series correctly. Maggie what about cable – SCFI, CHILLY, TNT, etc. The at least let you end the series gracefully.
FURIOUS

What is the deal with these networks that dangle amazing shows above us and in the end change their minds?! It is very infuriating! There’s not much I like watching on tv and the ones I do enjoy ABC takes away! Eastwick was an enjoyable program with plot and humor…why shut it down! With all these cancellations of great shows, I have to say that ABC…you are shooting yourself in the foot!
Well…I’m furious. Eastwick is a fantastic with a lot of potential story lines. I think ABC made a huge mistake with this one. I wonder if another station can pick it up?
I am also upset that Eastwick is being cancelled. I cannot believe that they also skipped a very important episode. That shows just how little they value the audience they did have. I cannot believe they did not give Eastwick more of a chance by moving it’s time slot. I have been a fan of CSI New york since it first aired; however, I chose to watch Eastwick instead. Eastwick was the only show on ABC that I liked. I get sick of the usual lame comedies and reality shows. I would rather read a book, than watch awful tv… Read more »
How in God’s name can ABC (even if they have cancelled the series) skip a very important episode of Eastwick like they did last night. They went from a great cliff hanger with everyone in a perilous situation in episode 10 to everyone laughing and having tea in episode 12. That is unforgivable. If you do have to leave two episodes unaired because you are desperately trying to save Ugly Betty (which you yourself murdered) why would you not leave the final two out.
I am very upset…i just started watching abc again when they started eastwick. Now i will go back to other networks. i hate abc
I am not happy about the cancellation. I love this show and it was one of the first new shows I have actually watched live in quite some time. I think it is different and appeals to mainly a female audience…but so what?? After the days most of us put in we would like a little mysterious drama with a hint of sexual overtone.
Eastwick canceled!!! I guess I will be going to bed at 9pm now. With good shows going away I am getting more sleep. now I can watch the 10 o clock news on fox
I really liked Eastwick, I’ve made up my mind to simply ignore ANY new ABC shows until they head into the second season. I don’t watch that much on TV anyway and there are plenty of well established shows to keep my attention. ABC (and FOX for that matter) won’t do this to me again. I’m not playing…
oh u bet i am furious!!!! me and my gf love the show!!!
I am both furious and sad. It makes no sense, it reached a great deal of people and already they are tossing it. Why let abc win? Why not move it to another day or channel. I don’t get how networks can cancel good tv series and expect people not to be upset. I love this show, I have seen a lot of my favorite tv series canceled, and I sat back and did nothing except complain to my family and friends, but this is the first time I have ever petitioned or even started to do something, which proves… Read more »
I definitely am furious over the cancellation of Eastwick because I feel the show was competing against a lot of other shows that were too popular to want to give up. I myself was never able to watch it at the original air time and had to wait for the episode online. Finally there was no type of closure to the show. I think the show was canceled prematurely and it seems to me ABC has had a lot of those recently. Hopefully another station will pick up the show.
yeah this is bull, does anyone at abc consider the fact that people dont have time to watch tv all the time, some people enjoy to record or tivo or dvr or whatever and some like to watch their tv shows online. this was a great show i could tell from the first episode and it gave the movie a run for its money too…all these great shows keep gettin cancelled what next, manufacturers are going to cancel making tvs themself. id rather that happen then all these shows with great potential get cancelled just because of people’s adjusting schedules…… Read more »
Furious. Lately ABC has become like Fox, canceling shows before they find their audience, and doing so in a manner that doesn’t allow story arcs to be resolved. For the fans who’ve supported the shows, this is very disappointing.
It’s not just Eastwick. The ABC ‘hit’ list includes Defying Gravity, Cupid, The Unusuals, etc. At least Fox gave Dollhouse an extra half-season, and creator Joss Whedon an opportunity to wrap things up before closing shop.
And don’t forget “Life On Mars”. That was another excellent show that wasn’t even given a chance. I’m still pissed off about “Life On Mars” getting axed and now “Eastwick” gets cancelled. The final episode that aired this evening (12/30/09) created more questions than it answered. Of all the TV networks, it seems to me that ABC is always the quickest to pull the plug on a new show before giving it a chance to succeed. The 10:00 p.m. timeslot hurt the show as well as lack of promotion. I guess I’ll just watch more of the History channel now.… Read more »
I am very angry. This was my main show to look forward to every week. What do you expect. ABC has to promote it more and then they take it off every week for the awards or some other show at least 3 times this happened already. ABC never gives a show a chance and then they cancel it. They don’t even complete a first season. What about viewers? Where do they get the information from? Why don’t they just ask us and take a look at the poles and see what we really want. I am at the point… Read more »
