The future of Flashpoint on CBS is still up in the air but Canadian viewers definitely have more episodes of the cop drama in their future.
Flashpoint is produced in Canada and CBS has licensed episodes since 2008 and used the show mostly as an off-season utility player. Last summer, CBS aired most of the episodes from season three but still had six installments left on the shelf. In January, the decision was made to license seven more episodes, combine them with the leftover six and run them as season four. They began airing in early May.
That left 11 episodes of the cop drama that weren’t being licensed by CBS. They are on track to be aired in Canada this summer.
CTV has now ordered a fifth season of 18 episodes. Flashpoint is the most-watched Canadian drama and has averaged more than 1.5 million viewers (an impressive number by Canadian TV standards). The new order will bring the series’ episode total to 80 installments, making it the longest-running original scripted series currently on Canadian television.
There’s been no word on whether CBS will license any more episodes or not but the ratings certainly haven’t been impressive. Thus far this season, Flashpoint’s been averaging just a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.42 million total viewers. Per the early numbers, last night’s installment tied a repeat of Shark Tank in the demo.
On the other hand, the show doesn’t cost the network as much as producing their own scripted dramas.
Once the new episodes are filmed and completed, there will be 29 episodes that CBS hasn’t licensed. We’ll have to wait to see when or if American audiences will get a chance to see them.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Flashpoint has been renewed? Should CBS license more episodes?

I recalled seeing earlier episodes of Flashpoint during the summer, when I came across it on Netflix. I started with season one, and by the time I was on the third series, I was hooked! A fununy thing happened along the way. My 15 year old son was hooked as well! This is an excellently written show, with modern issues, that all of us can relate to. In addition, the acting is top-notch! If CBS only has to pay for the rights to broadcast this, they would be crazy not to air more of it! Give it some advertising, and put… Read more »
I look forward to Friday nights because Flashpoint will be coming on.
I look forward to Friday nights because Flashpoint will be coming on. I do not plan any thing for that night or go any where or let some one come over. I am divorced so it makes it easy to plan Friday night my Flashpoint night.
Doesn’t bother me either way as I can always go online and watch it on CTV.
I hope CBS continues to show episodes of Flashpoint! I can only imagine what viewers only familiar with Canadian numbers must think of the 6.42 million who watch it here. It’s an interesting show that I for one, in America, enjoy watching on CBS. In fact, it’s one of the few shows I’ll watch on CBS. Let’s hope they continue to show episodes as long as it doesn’t cost them as much as making their own show to put on the air and, by that measure, have lower standards for its performance here in the States.
Please, CBS, renew Flashpoint for season 5. It’s such a good show and very exciting. It’s a quality show…and should be renewed. I have enjoyed all the seasons and will continue to watch every episode. Great characters + interesting plots equals great entertainment.
Totally love Flashpoint. I am enjoying the slow but steady development of each character and the relationships between them. This is a terrific show. Being on Friday night at 7:00 pn is not the greatest time slot. I never miss it and record it on the DVR to watch after I get in. I wonder what the DVR ratings are?
PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE let us see Flashpoint CBS. I am in the age range you speak of and I LOVE this show. It isa awesome. If not , I may have to move to Canada . Put on a great show for once and leave it. You put them on them take them away. Enough already. Let us enjoy this AWESOME shoe .

Flashpoint is a very intereting and at times intense TV show. I REALLY hope CBS will continue its run-my husband and I really enjoy it.
Definitely renew for CBS, it’s a great show, and shows how to negotiate during crisis.
Should CBS extend their options? Why not?
As mentioned in the main article, it’s a lot cheaper to buy someone else’s production than to make your own from scratch – and CBS has wasted enough money on stuff like Suspect Behavior and Defenders. Flashpoint seems to be holding its own in Canada, and CBS could do worse than to buy a show that already has a proven track record.
Hell Yeah!
More Wordy, Ed, Greg, Spike, Jules and Braddock. One of the best cop shows on TV. Keep making it and I’ll keep watching them.
FLASHPOINT is one of the better TV shows to come in a long time. With excellent writing and realistic props. It’s a storyline that you can sit back and really get into (every single episode) and not worry about when their going to show a gory bloody scene like an autopsy which other shows have. And as much as they have lots of guns/rifles you don’t see someone getting blown away either. Now for the cast, There are some good casts around but FLASHPOINT has one of the best they are ALL so creative, intense, superb, inspiring, gifted and accomplished.… Read more »
At some point, The ION Network will have all of the previous repeats, as well as new episodes that CBS didn’t licensed. It was a joint deal for the show between CBS and ION.
