The future of Flashpoint on CBS is still up in the air but Canadian viewers definitely have more episodes of the cop drama in their future.
Flashpoint is produced in Canada and CBS has licensed episodes since 2008 and used the show mostly as an off-season utility player. Last summer, CBS aired most of the episodes from season three but still had six installments left on the shelf. In January, the decision was made to license seven more episodes, combine them with the leftover six and run them as season four. They began airing in early May.
That left 11 episodes of the cop drama that weren’t being licensed by CBS. They are on track to be aired in Canada this summer.
CTV has now ordered a fifth season of 18 episodes. Flashpoint is the most-watched Canadian drama and has averaged more than 1.5 million viewers (an impressive number by Canadian TV standards). The new order will bring the series’ episode total to 80 installments, making it the longest-running original scripted series currently on Canadian television.
There’s been no word on whether CBS will license any more episodes or not but the ratings certainly haven’t been impressive. Thus far this season, Flashpoint’s been averaging just a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.42 million total viewers. Per the early numbers, last night’s installment tied a repeat of Shark Tank in the demo.
On the other hand, the show doesn’t cost the network as much as producing their own scripted dramas.
Once the new episodes are filmed and completed, there will be 29 episodes that CBS hasn’t licensed. We’ll have to wait to see when or if American audiences will get a chance to see them.
What do you think? Are you glad to hear Flashpoint has been renewed? Should CBS license more episodes?

I love this show and am so happy it is going to continue with CTV.
Please bring it back. As a retired police officer,mi find thisnshow vry accurate and exciting.
CBS. BIG MISTAKE TO CANCEL.
CBS has managed to screw up the best shows. First they wrote off JJ and Emily P. on Criminal Minds, totally destroying the show. No offence to the new girl, but not even close. Use to be glued to the TV on Wed. nights, now doesn’t matter if I miss it. Flashpoint FAR EXCEEDED any show & now CBS has managed to make another idiotic decision. I’ve ranted and raved about Flashpoint to anyone I could. It is mastery. Hey, CBS what are you going to replace it with? Gee, how about more reality show dribble. LISTEN!! I can only… Read more »
I personally think that it is by far the best police drama on tv, the stories and the actors are as real as you can get for tv. viewing. The one gigantic problem with the show is the “little young actresss, and I mean little” who doesn’t fit the part at all. I doubt that she is even five feet tall, she has no body weight or muscle, there is nothing about her that would allow her to be accepted in any police force in the world especially in the field. This one thing gives the show the only flaw.… Read more »
CBS should definitely bring back CBS. I was really upset when the last episode ended and no indication it was returning. I wish it was run as a regular season show rather than off-season. I always DVR it.
I love Flashpoint! CBS needs to bring it back, I can’t be left wondering what happened?
My wife and I have been watching the show Flashpoint from the start and really enjoy it. It has gotting better and was getting into the development of the stories when we saw what looks like the cliff hanger. I hope that this is not the way as other shows by building the story and then just stop. It would be nice to see a series finish and I see that ctv is still making the show. Lets go cbs, please.
I love Flashpoint, and after last night’s episode, can hardly wait to see more.
I dont know where they get their numbers but I sure hope Flashpoint stays on….
I always watch the show even if i have to record it and watch later.
please, please give us more episodes it’s a great show!!!!!!!!
well casted and excellently scripted. Needs a better time and stronger advertising.
A crime to end it on CBS.
I love this show and love all the actors on the team . One of the best shows on tv. Please keep the show on. CBS should advertise the show more the ratings would skyrocket . Many people dont know about the show !!! We love it >>>>>Please keep it !!!
I love the show and its action. Keep the show on cbs
I think CBS should definitely continue the Flashpoint series. It is a good program. I think you could put it on a better schedule and maybe it would get more viewers. It seems to appear late in the fall and winter season and ends early during the summer season. Let it run with the fall season. Then viewers can get into their regular viewing.
Would love to see more of Flashpoint. Also I have always wondered who the people are that are polled on what they watch on TV? I am 68 and have watched a lot of TV and never been polled. Have seen numerous shows I watch on US TV canceled saying the polling numbers were low. At the end of tonights show they (CBS) didn’t give any previews of coming shows. The non cable channels lose viewers to cable TV because they do not pay attention to what the viewers watch. 80% of the time is because they put the good… Read more »
