The verdict is in. ABC has renewed its For the People TV show for a second season. Watch the announcement below. The Shondaland TV series comes from creator Paul William Davies — a veteran of the recently ended Scandal. Do not be surprised if there are casting changes and other tweaks made during the hiatus. When a show with ratings this low snags a renewal from the clutches of cancellation, there are almost always changes on the way.
An ABC legal drama, For the People stars Britt Robertson, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood, Wesam Keesh, Regé-Jean Page, Ben Shenkman, Hope Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Anna Deavere Smith. The series is set at “The Mother Court,” i.e. the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. The story centers on six accomplished attorneys, who work on both sides of the law.

For the People: A Look at the Ratings
The first season of For the People averaged a 0.66 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 2.64 million viewers. Of the 26 scripted ABC TV shows we’re tracking right now, it ranks 21st when sorted by either measure.
All told, today ABC renewed three dramas: For the People (season two); How to Get Away with Murder (season five), and Grey’s spin-off Station 19 (season two).
The network also renewed four comedies: American Housewife (season three); Black-ish (season five); Fresh Off the Boat (season five); and Splitting Up Together (season two).

I thought the show would be renewed. I thought it was quite good and the story lines good. I will anxiously awaiting season 2

When does Season 2 air?
I love this show and have been waiting for it to return. I am surprised to hear it had poor ratings. It’s nice to have something outside the norm and intelligent. I hope the changes don’t dumb it down or seek to reach the same demographic as most other shows. Maybe it needed better promotions or had a better time slot. Be smart about this ABC.
I loved this show and hope it will air soon. I loved the cases and the back stories and the characters I’m looking forward to its return soon.
Love this show!! I hope the changes they are talking about making don’t mean they are going to ruin it by moving the focus from well presented interesting legal subject matter. It is nice to watch a show that says something with meaning, Thank you! and I’m looking forward to the new season. I am glad that they are giving it another season to gain momentum. Maybe try Wednesdays, before A Million Little Things, overall the networks are lacking good programming to watch that night.

So glad to hear of the renewal. It’s such an adult show with very interesting cases. So hard to find a quality show with great characters. Thanks for the renewal. Please tell people about the show I know more would watch if they new about the wonderful show.
Hooray! I love this show and I was really worried that it was going to get cancelled. All the elements of greatness and a long run are there – the network just needs to promote it more. Nobody knows it exists!
