ABC and Netflix have found some measure of success in adapting Marvel properties for television, and Legion has found a home on FX. Now its broadcast sister station, FOX, is dipping a toe into Marvel’s X-Men universe, with the first season of The Gifted TV show. Will it be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.
The Gifted stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes White, Sean Teale, Jamie Chung, Emma Dumont, Blair Redford, Coby Bell, and Garret Dillahunt. The FOX superhero sci-fi drama centers on Reed and Caitlin Strucker (Moyer and Acker) and their teenaged children, Lauren (Lind) and Andy (White) — a seemingly normal family. When the kids manifest powers associated with the X-gene, the Struckers must go on the run and seek refuge with the mutants Reed once prosecuted.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
1/30 update: You can see the rest of the latest night’s ratings.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like The Gifted TV series? Should it be cancelled or renewed for a second season on FOX?
1/4/update: The Gifted is renewed for season two on FOX. Details here.
Great show… as good as Person Of Interest. Bottom line – super writing
and great casting, I’m sure it’s tough to get that equal balance. Study it closely
that the slipping ratings maybe other things… business is complicated.
i like the show but person of interest was ten better i hope they give amy acker a more root like acting part and i hope it doesnt get cancilled
I don’t know what some people are thinking I love every show keep this on always taking the great show away
01-04 was an exceptionally crappy episode so we can expect a huge rating decline.
—–
01-05 – 0.9 or less
01-06 – 0.8 or less
01-07 – 0.7 or less
01-08 – 0.6 or less
01-09 – 0.5 or less
01-10 – 0.4 or less (hoping for 0.2 or less but this won’t happen)

Unfortunately it’s still enough to renew it.
Thats BS. Anything over 1.0 is pretty good. Its holding its own very well. There is not a single huge decline there at all. What is more the episode was excellent. I thought the show would would be a bit childish, but it was excellent. As a matter of fact its much more fun then traditional action shows like Walking Dead which have too much melodrama, and the predictable cliche characters. Everyone is tired of the southern racist guy, or the bad boy that falls in love with the heroine, of the snarky all powerful action girl who never hads… Read more »
Agreed and plus this is a million times better than Fear the Walking Dead. It’s like what Fear could have been if it wasn’t so lazy with casting.
Well, your guess for predictions were extremely inacurate
BORING piece of crap. Cancel it.
Like it.
FYI (re: ratings): The Gifted is performing better than the Live+Same Day ratings might suggest. Week 1 ratings rose from 1.48 (Live+SD) to 2.3 (Live+3) and then 2.8 (Live+7). The 2.8 figure (87% increase over L+SD) was the highest L+7 premiere for a FOX show since the 2015-16 midseason (X-Files). Week 2 ratings increased 53% from 1.20 (L+SD) to 2.0 (L+3), with L+7 not yet publicly released. Delayed viewing data for Week 3 isn’t available yet. The Gifted is slotted against Monday Night Football and DWtS, as well as the MLB playoffs recently – all of which are live events… Read more »
LOL look at those ratings. I smell cancellation 😀
Not necessarily. Shows like Fear the Walking Dead are also tied to a big franchise and have worse ratings than this but it keeps getting renewed anyway.
Not really. If Fear the Walking Dead is another show coming from a big franchise and is still being renewed at lower ratings and a constant decline, I think that The Gifted will be renewed just the same.
If the ratings drop to 0,3 will they cancel it? Or can they at least free Amy Acker from this embarrassing gig? She deserves something more professional and smart with better writing.
As an Amy Acker aficionado (alliteration abounds?), I’ve enjoyed her performance on the show, which has complemented the show’s solid writing well. It may be a departure from her iconic turns as a strong, brainy (oft-quirky) badass who must overcome past adversity/trauma (e.g. Winifred on Angel, Whiskey on Dollhouse, Root on P.O.I.), but her performance is equally heartfelt and continues to show her range as an actress. (Come to think of it, her character actually still shares many of those qualities, to a degree.) Given Acker’s filmography, fan base, and industry-wide respect, she probably had her pick of many roles… Read more »
The problem with playing a mom on the shows like this one is that you can’t give this character much development. At the moment she’s panicking 70% of the time, she creates problems for others and herself, she supports her kids and wants to rescue her husbland. With time she’ll become fierce, protective towards mutants and learn some martial arts, probably learn how to use weapons. Then what? What else this role can give her besides this cliché character development? Nothing. And the show itself is bad – cheesy, clunky, full of clichés, tropes, bad dialogues and lazy writing. This… Read more »
Its hardly typical, and its a great ensemble cast.
Nah,the show is great, not many shows these days can hook you up anymore, although the ‘cheesy, clunky, full of clichés ,tropes, bad dialogues and lazy writing’ perfectly describes riverdale (thumps up)
The show is really amazing plus i look forward to it every Monday and way more entertaining than Inhumans.
Me too
Dropping into the three million section is never good on Fox, especially on the second episode, it’ll get renewed for a second season for sure, but I doubt any further.
LOL they keep renewing Fear the Walking Dead and that gets even lower ratings than this. The Gifted will be fine, it’s a top show on Fox.
I really like this show so it’s probably doomed. I hope they don’t just keep it on the family, because they could go so many places with the mutant underground. Hoping we get a second season so it has time for a good developing of the characters.
Really excellent writing. Well paced, good character development. We all loved it except one guy who only likes animation and comic books….. The cast is real. Cant wait for tomorrow night!!
Great ratings, very impressed. Makes AMC look pretty shabby right now considering this show is like a less sucky version of Fear (if they had superpowers!). Keep it up!
Too much like the Heroes TV series. Cancel it.
Loved it!! My favorite new show so far! (As far as pilots go).
