Why did CBS just cancel most of their new TV shows? Recently, network boss Kelly Kahl spoke with Deadline about the decision to cancel Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, and God Friended Me.
With the exception of God Friended Me, which wrapped its second season this spring, all the shows cancelled debuted during the 2019-20 season. CBS also cancelled Man with a Plan, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Speaking to Deadline, Kahl revealed it was a “tough” decision to cancel Broke, God Friended Me, Carol’s Second Act, and Tommy:
At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows. You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye. It’s a tough call.”

God friended me was awesome, and a super fam friendly engaging show. Why you take all the worthy watching shows off is soooo irritating!
They should have never cancelled Tommy it was a great show!
I hope there is a Channel out there that is smart enough to pick up “God Friended Me”. It is a great uplifting and well written show with a remarkable cast. This show just needed a more consistent time slot without being bumped for every other whim that CBS decided to bump it for. Come on Fox, ABC, UPTV, Netflix, somebody that wants more positive programming in their lineup.

I looked forward every week to God Friended Me. It was different from any other show. Also, it was very inspiring. I will miss it.
Sunday night I looked forward to God Friended me. Several of my friends from across the country also tuned in. I am a senior citizen and I enjoyed it
Loved Tommy. Thought the character develop was very good and the main female character was easy to root for. I hope they reconsider
I loved Man With a Plan. Just a nice, amusing show. I think Broke could have come into its own if they focused more on Tío Javier, Luis, and Sammy.
God friended me was the only show worth watching at this time more than ever
Sad to see God Friended Me go. The show was family friendly and inspiring. All of the characters were extremely likable. We really looked forward to watching every week.
Terrible acting in both Broke and Tommy
Why cancel Tommy? It’s a good, no, great show! Edie Falco does her usual awesome job playing Tommy. It never makes sense when networks cancel good shows but keep the crappy ones. Please rethink this decision and bring Tommy back.

I hate it that God Friended Me was cancelled. I looked forward to it every week, loved the plot, the characters, and the actors. Please bring it back!
I am extremely disappointed that God Friended Me was canceled!! One of the FEW clean and wholesome shows airing on television today. I watched EVERY episode. But I can see how numbers would dwindle… so many interruptions with Awards, “Specials “,etc. Too many interruptions!! And then in the middle of the season came COVID-19! Like everyone’s life went on as normal!?!? No wonder viewers went down. I’m sure they, like me, were watching news channels trying to figure out what this virus was all about.
