It looks like the doctor is out — for now. HBO has cancelled In Treatment after three seasons on the air. However, the cable channel may be interested in keeping the series going in another form.
Starring Gabriel Byrne as Dr. Paul Weston, In Treatment first aired in January 2008 and ran five nights a week. That didn’t perform as well as expected so it was reduced to two episodes twice a week for seasons two and three. While In Treatment has been a favorite with some critics, the ratings haven’t kept up. The season three finale, which aired in December, attracted just 253,000 viewers.
Byrne noted that the role was quite demanding in that it required him to memorize large amounts of dialogue in a short amount of time. He was nominated for two Emmy Awards and appeared in all 121 episodes of the series. Dianne Wiest won a supporting actress Emmy and Glynn Turman won in the guest actor category. In 2009, In Treatment won the WGA Award for best new series.
Though In Treatment may be done as a regular series, HBO is interested in a new incarnation. A statement from HBO states, “It’s true that we have no plans to continue with In Treatment as previously formatted. However, we are in continued conversations with the executive producers to find another way to continue telling these rich stories.”
What do you think? Are you sorry that there won’t be a fourth season of In Treatment? Would you like to see it continue in another form?

I’m currently watching Series 3. I am so disappointed that there isn’t any more episodes after this. I absolutely love it.
I loved the series. It was interesting and had a real-life vibe. I found bits of myself in some of the situations which actually helped me make some changes in myself. I’m in therapy and it gave me perspective into how the therapist compartmentalizes their patients in their own lives. The actors chosen for each role were spot-on and portrayed their characters in such a believable way. Please, please, come to a agreement with the executive producers to keep the concept going in whatever format.

One of the best series I’ve ever watched! Felt like I was “in treatment”. Actually led to my discovering more about the effects of my parents divorce on my own life, which then led to my mending my relationship with my sister. Bring the series back! I have more issues to work out!
I so agree with you. And I think that’s the attraction of the show.
Please bring it back! Great serie, Gabriel Byrne is just perfect for the role
This was a great show! It is too bad HBO never did anything with it.
Bring it back.Perhaps once a week
Bring this show back. Well written, great acting. Gabriel Byrne is superb.
I hope it will be continued. it is an exceptional series, based on interesting spoken texts more than anything. it is very important to continue it.
In Therapy is excellent actually gives inight to people’s behavior. Excellent characters. Interesting that it is no coming back. Will be greatly missed.
I have been a therapist for 20 years. I introduced the show to my husband, who does not have a clinical background, and he became enthralled with it. The show was well-written and accurately depicted the clinical environment and dilemmas that clinicians face. Please, please, please consider bringing the show back. Thank you: Lynn L.
Well put, Lynn. I think the show’s rebirth, unfortunately, is unlikely.
Am finishing the final season (just started it in now, 2018) and love love love it. I wish it would go on forever.
Okay, so did she pull the plug on her sister at the end of Season Three? I guess we’ll never know! It’s my opinion that this show is too sophisticated for the average person who wants to be entertained. I work as a spiritual counselor and I learned a lot from watching this well-researched, well-written, and incredibly acted character/therapist in action. I got the DVDs from my local library here in Ashland, Oregon. Thanks!
Please be respectful to others who have not seen all seasons. Thank you.
What sort of work do you do as a Spiritual Counsellor please? Xx

The show was just the right amount of emotional involvement without being overly dramatic. The stories of each patient well executed. The Therapist so insightful and gave insight into what people go through in everyday life. It’s a relatable show.
The best tv show, i hope for more seasons
I agree, I just finished watching season 3 on Amazon and loved it in every way. Please continue with the series.
Have there been any episodes since 2011?
