Earlier this week, we reported ABC has cancelled Of Kings and Prophets after two episodes. Now, some of the series’ producers have reacted to the biblical drama’s swift cancellation.
Of Kings and Prophets starred Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, and Simone Kessell in stories based on the Biblical Books of Samuel.
On their Facebook page, producers Reza Aslan and Mahyad Tousi expressed disappointment with ABC’s decision but sounded hopeful about the series getting picked up somewhere else:
We feel confident that ABC Studios will find a new home for our show so that the millions of you who have tuned in to see it will get an opportunity to see the rest of this tale, and that millions more will have the opportunity to see it.”
As of now, ABC is not airing the drama’s remaining eight episodes.

What do you think? Did you watch Of Kings and Prophets? Do you think it should’ve been cancelled? Do you think another network should pick up the series?
Good series, too bad it was cancelled. Why are we botheing to start anything new? Netflix it when you have the full series!
I watched half of the first episode that I had recorded, then erased both. Blame the timeslot or debates or whatever all you want…but the truth is that the show IMO, was not enjoyable to watch.
ABC made the right decision on this one. Not enough viewers tuned in. ABC doesn’t care 2.4 million viewers tuned in. That’s not good enough for their 18-49 demographic ratings. That is why this series got canned. But something caused the viewership to be low, not only for this show but multiple shows have seen low viewership and been cancelled as the result. The question is what is causing the low viewership? A boycott sounds like it would be a cause, so for saying that there is no boycott is not completely true.
I am Boycotting ABC since 2011. I am not alone.
There is no boycott……”nonetheless, the claim that ABC has “banned” their on-air personnel from wearing U.S. flag pins wasn’t true in 2001, and it isn’t true fourteen years on (despite commonly being reported in e-mail forwards as if it were a recent occurrence). And ABC News couldn’t have “joined” President Obama in this endeavor (as asserted in the second example above), as the latter never instituted any ban on U.S. flag pins either. (Barack Obama, then a presidential candidate, announced in October 2007 that he had stopped wearing a flag pin himself, but he resumed the practice several months later.)… Read more »
Wrong Boycott. And yes there is too a boycott. 3 million viewers are boycotting ABC. Carol your living under a rock if you think otherise.
Sorry to burst your bubble … there is definitely a boycott of abc going on. How can people like you who aren’t even a part of it say for a fact that there isn’t a boycott? There are many of us. This has been going on for years! Educate yourself before making statements like that.
I haven’t gotten the chance to check this out, because this is the type of show i really enjoy, but I’m sad it was cancelled. Networks knew what they were doing when they decided to air the show during the debates, super tuesdays or what have you. They had enough clout to air the show during a time where it didn’t compete with the election preparations(if that’s the real reason it was cancelled anyway).
ABC has a Boycott against the network. If you need to have an explanation why, you have been living under a rock since 2011. The Boycott is 5 years old and will continue on, for those who are boycotting we know why. Continue boycotting.
Just got out from under my rock. Tell me what this boycott is all about. I have never heard about it.
wth i just started to enjoy this new show and yet again its been axed surprise surprise why do i even bother what is the reason this time some people been complaining about it because its part of the bible or not enough ethnic actors or some other stupid reason i mean come on how do you expect to get people to like it after 2 episodes some people like to see a bit more before they judge whether its worth watching or not soon there will be no decent shows on tv it will be all crap left then… Read more »
You do know there is a Boycott against ABC? Has been since 2011. Reason why ABC cancels a lot of shows. No one is watching ABC anymore.
I’m disappointed to hear that this show has been pulled from the lineup! There are millions of christians and non believers alike who love these type of shows with a biblical context including myself! It was refreshing to have ABC air this type of programming in instead of the constant bombardment of all the sleazy reality TV!
my wife and I watched the first episode. we always give new shows a chance. neither one of us felt like giving this one enough of a chance to even watch the second episode – everything about it, we felt, was that bad. I guess the people at ABC are not only smart but have the guts to do the right thing . . . pull bad productions quickly to stop others from feeling the pain and costing their network even more money than they have already cost them!
It’s so brutal in the jungle of network TV shows. I was actually enjoying the show although it was a bit slow going. Perhaps it can find a new home at Netflix or Hulu…?
I saw the show on On Demand, thoroughly enjoyed it and looked forward to the next episodes. The cancellation is disappointing!
Once again, a major network has made a very knee jerk decision with no concern for viewer feelings. This show definitely has potential to build a good size audience. To cancel after only two episodes shown during a distracting, political driven period is ridiculous and disrespectful. The remaining episodes are available. Let them play out and then make a reasoned , intelligent decision. I suspect this one is a winner and someone should grab it now.
The audience would not have grown over time because ABC has a boycott against the network since 2011. Their #4 against the other major networks because of the boycott. Many shows get the boot because of the boycott.
Very disappointed in ABC for canceling this show after 2 episodes. I have never understood why networks cancel shows so quickly, why can’t they show the entire season? The show is already filmed & it’s not like they have something better to put in its place.
ABC has been cancelling shows quickly due to the boycott. They have lost viewers since 2011 and continue to do so.
Why are the best shows cancelled? Is it because it makes sense? Too intelligent for the viewers that always complaint about good stories?, even Of Kings and prophets that is based in the Bible. Wake up networks executives, there are still people that like good stories, great actors, not the reality shows that you so proudly present to your viewers. I hope maybe Netflix or Hulu picks up this show.
The reason is because ABC has a boycott against the network. ABC is so embarrassed they won’t make a statement toward the boycott. They continue to lose viewers because viewers are fed up with ABC- always being cancelled.
