NBC isn’t giving up the 10 PM hour — yet. It was reported in August that the peacock network was considering dropping the 10 PM hour and giving the timeslot back to affiliate stations to fill with whatever they choose (likely an early newscast or syndicated programming).
NBC has decided to keep the third hour of primetime at least through the 2023-2024 season as it explores its options. Per Deadline, the network is looking at picking up more multi-cam comedies and procedurals.
A decision to lose the 10 PM hour would impact two big Dick Wolf franchises in particular, with Chicago PD and Law & Order: Organized Crime airing at that hour on Wednesday and Thursday nights, respectively. The nights of Wolf programming perform well for the network and this move would disrupt them.
The following was reported about the discussions surrounding NBC‘s third hour of primetime:
A decision has now been made, at least when it comes to the next 2023-24 broadcast season. I hear Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, relayed the message during recent agency presentations, stressing that the network will not be getting out of the 10 PM hour.
According to sources, the statement is true for the 2023-24 season while the company continues to evaluate its options. A potential 10 PM exit is considered a cost-cutting move amid declining linear viewing for entertainment programming, and Shell has indicated that NBCU intends to “reallocate resources” toward areas of the company that are growing. Asked in October if he expects other media giants to follow NBCU’s lead in possibly abdicating the 10 PM hour, Jordan Wertlieb, head of station owner Hearst Television, replied, “I expect they will and I hope they will.”
What do you think? Do you want to continue seeing programming by the networks during the 10 PM hour?
Please do NOT get rid of the 10:00 hour. PD and Law and Order are two of the best shoes on TV. Like someone else said….if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
If it ain’t broke….. don’t fix it!!! Leave the lineup at 10:00 as is…
Leave it alone!! Keep Chicago PD and Law&Order Organized Crime on.
Please don’t change the 10pm to 11pm schedule for Chicago P.D and Law and Order Organized Crime I love watching those shows. Just leave the schedule the way it is now. Please.
Why not cut cost by getting rid of some of the big shots that come up with these ideas, instead of ******** over the people who follow these shows. So now you want to put on more lying news casts, that’s real bs.
Im in Texas so it actually show at 9 pm here and I like it just as it is.
Your 9pm time slot is the 10pm time slot across the country. So if NBC gets rid of 10pm, your 9pm is affected. Just to be clear how it works with time zones.
Just leave it alone
Don’t change it please. I am an avid watcher of all the 10 pm shows
Leave the 10-11pm weeknight schedule as-is. Dick Wolf’s shows are essential entertainment for thoughtful adults. Replacing that hour with local programming ensures low-grade, brain-dead shows.
Just leave it alone. I love Dick Wolf shows all of them. If it is not broken don’t fix it. I’m asking you’ll please just leave it alone. It sooo dumb!
I WANT TO SEE MY SHOW CP. DO NOT CANCEL.
I agree.do not cancel please
Shell needs to reevaluate his priorities. We all remember the absolute debaucle NBC made of the 10pm hour with the Tonight Show switchup several years ago. Do not be ridiculous and just leave the hour alone. Are you seriously going to shift the current lineups and start at 7pm instead of 8pm? That’s what you would have to do because you shouldn’t just remove successful shows because they run at 10pm. So dumb. It’s already awkward that they air shows like Blacklist at 8pm for younger viewers to see. Please. Why don’t the bosses take a smaller salary instead?
Yeah. We cannot afford streaming. It we be a big loss of available programming for us if they eliminate the 10:00 segment.
They r just doing to much. Just Leave it as it is. Keep all the Chicago Shows on one night. An Law & Order shows on one night.
I think that they should keep the 10:00 o’clock programs as is. I will not be going to any of the streaming channels any time soon. Sure there are a few shows that I would watch but by and large there are not enough for me to watch to warrant getting any of the streaming channels.
