The tale of Mark and Eleanor has been cut short. Showtime has cancelled Let the Right One In so viewers won’t see a second season. The show’s 10-episode first season concluded last month.
A psychological horror drama series, the Let the Right One In TV show was inspired by the Swedish novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and the film of the same name. It stars Demián Bichir, Anika Noni Rose, Madison Taylor Baez, Grace Gummer, Ian Foreman, Jacob Buster, Nick Stahl, and Kevin Carroll. The story revolves around Mark Kane (Bichir) and his daughter Eleanor (Baez). Their lives were changed forever when, 10 years ago, she was turned into a vampire. Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life and is able to go out only at night. Meanwhile, her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive. Now, they’ve returned home to New York City after a decade away, desperate to find a cure.
Based on the numbers we have, the low-rated first season of Let the Right One In averaged a 0.02 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 81,000 viewers in the live+same day ratings (including DVR playback through 3:00 AM).
The cancellation news comes as it was announced that Showtime’s linear and streaming platforms would be rebranded. The linear channel will be named “Paramount+ with Showtime”, while the channel’s streaming content will be pulled into the Paramount+ service.
As part of that move, Paramount CEO Bob Bakish announced that the company “will divert investment away from areas that are underperforming and that account for less than 10% of our views. We have already begun conversations with our production partners about what content makes sense moving forward and which shows have franchise potential.”
The channel released the following statement, confirming the cancellation: “Showtime can confirm that Let the Right One In will not move forward with a second season. We are extremely proud of this series and of the outstanding work by Demián Bichir, Madison Taylor Baez, Anika Noni Rose, our showrunner Andrew Hinderaker and his fellow executive producers, and the entire cast and crew. We would like to thank all of them and our partners at Tomorrow Studios, and we wish everyone the best going forward.”
American Gigolo was also cancelled today. The new series Three Women has been shelved and will be shopped to other outlets.

Bloody horrible decision. No wonder it got low ratings, how much did they advertise. My wife n I love series like this, but didn’t know about it till a few days ago. Then binged it in 2 nights. It is excellent. Diverse cultural cast, strong representation, and best of all it felt natural unlike the Marvel shoehorning that makes you wince. The story is so engaging and you connect to the characters. It had the feel of “The strain”, and deserved to run it’s course just like that show. I loved it and hope another company picks it up and… Read more »
Bring it back! We loved it and it needs a better ending!
BRING IT BACK!!! You can’t have that ending of season one and not continue that storyline! So unfair to us fans. I have been waiting in anticipation of what I believed was going to be an amazing season two, only to find out now that the show was cancelled. I’m so very disappointed. Awful decision by Showtime.
Just picked up on this series and I find out its cancelled after one season. This is becoming all too common these days, you invest in a show and it gets done anyway with.
I am cancelling my Showtime. That’s the only reason I got showtime. This was an EXCELLENT series. I pray Netflix picks it up
I’m just learning of the show and it’s great! I’m disappointed I won’t get to continue getting to know more about these characters.
I’m disappointed they’re not moving forward with a 2nd season I enjoyed it so much watched the replays all the time!!! So disappointed with Showtime
Disgusting! Just went finally you get to watch some decent shows since everything was so rushed through the pandemic with crappy series and movies. Finally we get a series with decent actors actresses and a good story line and they go and cancel it! WTF Showtime and/or Paramount! You screwed the pooch on this one! This was a good series that had a good story plot and that could have continued. It was left wide open for all kinds of options to continue the story and Showtime just pitches it away! Let me guess it’s not WOKE enough for you?… Read more »
A diverse cast, so it is woke. It’s also excellent quality in terms of acting, writing and directing.
I can’t believe you would cancel “Let the Right One In”. The story and the actors were great. I love it. Madison Taylor Baez is such a great actress. I felt everything she felt, I never get emotional with shows but the story and all the actor were great. You can’t leave it ending with her biting her friend’s mom at the end to save her life. I have been waiting for Season 2 and now I find out there won’t be one. That’s show is awesome.
Total BS, this was one of the best shows I’ve seen in a long time and the only vampire story in a long list of done to death vampire movies and series worth watching. Showtime please pull your head out of your asses and reconsider a season 2.
Let The Right One In was an amazing show. I hate it that they cancelled it. I thought it was definitely one of the best new series out. Better than the last of us.
this simply needs to be renewed or piked up by another platform.Great acting and a wonderful story needs conclusion
Unbelievable! This is a truly potential series. Great story and talented casting crew. Keep having these decisions and for sure you guys will go bankrupt!!!
Let the Right One In was a great show. I just found out it has been cancelled. Please bring it back!!
A great new show cancelled yet again. This is sad – I know of many people that where looking forward to the next season, a potential cure / bring it back please!!!!
