A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
The show is cool….but…if he doesn’t get his power back soon…I will lose interest. It is just becoming another cop show with two mortals…BORING. and I am tired of shows dragging out the obvious all season. Can she know he is the devil already. The show is not feeding the audience enough….it will be cancelled if it is not deviled up more.
If Morningstar’s supernatural powers come and go as a plot point then that might be interesting.
Please keep it! We love it!
Keep it! We love it!!
Fox finally brings in a show that has a plot with originality and not a remake of something from the distant past. Lucifer’s character is funny, charismatic, and a bit unpredictable. The other character’s in the show bring out qualities in Lucifer that most wouldn’t probably think of as possible, but that is why the series is entertaining. It is meant to entertain and not to be taken seriously. People should learn to sit, relax, and enjoy. It’s just TV.
It is a show that is well worth letting run for another series, their are deeper and darker aspects to be explored along with the idea of God having a master plan. That Lucifer is not acting against his fathers wishes but is being shown humanity for a greater purpose. This would fit with the gradual reversal of personality traits between Armendiel and Lucifer.
I love the show, but it needs to be a little more devil- Lucifer and less human-Lucifer. It was a great idea, but that can only go so far. I really love this show and I would be so bummed if it didn’t get renewed for season 2. I love all the characters and the plot points!
Omg I am 55 and watch nothing faithfully. Thus show I never miss.
I think the show is very entertaining and in some ways enlightening. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL. Even the devil has feelings!! Tom Ellis play this role perfectly proving that we all have good and bad and we make our choices.
This is a great series. People need to stop looking to much into things and stop nitpicking at little things. It’s a great series and shouldn’t be taking to series it’s just a TV show to provide entertainment. Has a great story, plot, and characters. I think if you don’t like a show or series don’t watch. No one is forcing these negative feedback people to watch. Why ruin it for other who do enjoy. I say keep it going.
I love this show. So funny. Don’t give in to the haters.
Keep it Ellis is great
Keep it. The tension of whether Lucifer can be redeemed while the so called angel sent by God is plotting his demise in a truly under-handed manner is great and unfolds in the backdrop of of an L.A police drama with its own human issues of weakness, failed marriages (and who is Cloereally going to end up with) , friendship and criminals. All in all it is great fun and I watch it every Monday or if I am late the next day. Not preachy but is in essence a morality series.
I LOVE the show! We record it and watch it every week. Please keep this show!
Loving the show Lucifer! My favorite new show! Please renew for next season.
LOVE IT!
