A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
This is the only Major Network show that I watch and record. Like others that also had that something special like Lucifer, they were: StarTrek, Married with Children, Bablyon 5, Rules of Engagement and now Lucifer. These all have a uniqueness with great actors and scripts. I have bought the complete series of most of these shows. These shows have a special place with me.
I hope they keep it! I love it. It’s fun, interesting, has good acting and a lot of potential.
Please renew for season 2. I don’t feel groups should be able to dictate what other people should or could watch. It sounds like it was being boycotted before it even premiered. I do agree with another commenter that I enjoyed it much more when he wasn’t turning mortal. It sort of takes the entire plot away from the series if he’s just “another guy”. I’m not sure how ratings are counted. I record everything I watch on my DVR which means I can record more than one show at the same time, and I watch all of them. I… Read more »
Best show I’ve seen in a long time. I really hope there’s going to be a second series and a third, fourth, fifth etc etc
I command you to keep this show. Best wwriting and one liners of the year. Trixie showing up at the nightclub was hilarious, and the same with her mom later in the episode. Seriously one of 3 network shows I watch, Brooklyn 99 and Real Oneals too. Keep them all!
Fun show, Lucifer is a charming, witty character, and Mr Ellis plays him to the hilt.
My boyfriend and I both love this show please do not cancel. We look forward to Monday nights when we get off work to come home and watch. It’s a great show!! Don’t cancel because of someone’s negativity. If they don’t like the show then they can change the channel.
SEASON 2!!!!!!!!
This is one of the best shows out there with a completely different story line. If the religious nay-sayers actually watched the show, they might realize that the show does actually have lessons in morals and values in its own roundabout way. I’m just happy to something that has great casting, directing and script for a change.
Keep, I really like the show although they might want to delve into what’s going on with all the people that he is supposed to be in charge of.
Ok, I am about as stuffy as they come. 55 year old woman with a 65 year old catholic husband and both of us love the show! It is, ultimately, a cute show. It keeps our interest. The writing has been really good so far. We thought we would tire quickly of it, but each week it has gotten even sweeter. Yes the star is supposedly the devil. But don’t forget Lucifer was an angel to begin with (albeit a fallen angel). The show is more about forgiveness. The devil enjoyed punishing the souls who deserved it, but is quickly… Read more »
I hope they keep it. It is a refreshing, daring show. The main character, Lucifer is engaging and totally likable. It’s been great watching him discover his own humanity while observing the people around him.
My husband and I enjoy the show. Tom Ellis’ character, Lucifer, is witty and likable. The other characters are also enjoyable. Some episodes are more interesting than others. But overall, it is a fun premise. As for those against the show, it is a TV show, based on a comic, that is lighter than a lot of other shows on television. We want more seasons.

Please give it another season. This show is a hoot! It’s totally fun and a major relief from reality. It’s hard to understand why its ratings are dropping.
