A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Please keep this show. After Castle finally jumped the shark I decided to give Lucifer a go so I might have something to look forward to on Monday night. It’s much better than I thought it would be. And since I’m also still mourning the loss of Constantine on NBC last year, Lucifer has actually become my favorite guilty pleasure.
I love this show and so does my teenage daughter and her friends. I’m also a fan of the Comic book. People need to get over the name of the show and enjoy the story and the entertainment. DONT CANCEL A GOOD SCRIPTED SHOW! They are a dying breed.
I love the show Lucifer – hope we get a season 2.
Love this show! DO NOT CANCEL IT!
Look forward to this show every Monday. Please keep.
Please keep this series. Love it.
DONT CANCEL LUCIFER PLEASE! It’s one of our favorites. Fun, funny, entertaining.
Too many shows get canceled so quickly give it a chance!
I don’t understand when a program, or anything for that matter, is excellent, it has to go. I do hope Lucifer stays on the air, because it is the only show I run back home to watch on Mondays! Tom Ellis is incredible!
love this show. please do not cancel it.
I totally enoy it and look forward to it every Monday
I love Lucifer. It’s creative, dramatic and funny all wrapped up in one. I haven’t missed an episode. I look forward to it each week and I hope Fox keeps it
Please keep Lucifer I love the show can’t wait each week till its on. It is funny I am always laughing at it and it’s brought me to tears too so it’s a win win please please renew the show….
I like the show Lucifer. I think it is a good show. Don”t cancel it!!
Keep Lucifer, but hire better writers. The is a lot of potential in the premise that they have not mined yet, The show is in a rut.
I have seen a couple of comments where someone is comparing the series to a comic book, as well as a novel by Mike Carey. I think both are probably very good, but the show should be reviewed on its own merits instead of comparing it to someone else’s work. The show is a separate medium, and probably was never intended to copy other works. I may read the novel and love it. I may look at the comic book and like it. But that won’t influence how I see the show. It’s something entirely different. I’m glad it’s not… Read more »
