A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
One of the shows I always look forward to watching will be greatly disappointed if it’s canceled.
I love this show! It’s a unique twist on crime drama with a lot of good. Really enjoying his search for what is his relationship with his father and that anyone even the worst can change. Very nicely done! Please renew! Our family watches every episode.
Don’t cancel the show, my husband and I watch it “religiously”. It is fun to watch and the writers do a great job keeping the dialog witty and sharp. Please continue the series.
Second season please I am totally hooked watched and rewatched the first season in one week!
Please do not cancel Lucifer. Love the show and the interaction between him and the detective.
The pilot was excellent. My friends saw it too and now have cable due to watching it with me. Yesterday’s episode was much better improvement. Last few episodes have lucifer as a good person and will change who he was before sentenced to hell. Consider heart throbing episodes ending with suspense. Rugby is upcoming sport and might catch a few riggers like me
Fun, quirky and charming – both the show and the main character. Please do not cancel.
Please don’t cancel Lucifer! It is very entertaining.
Love it! Hope you keep it!
Lucifer is a refreshingly funny drama. The lead actor is deliciously naughty and nice at the same time with such witty one liners. We literally laugh out loud every week. It’s our favorite new show, please renew and continue to develop these interesting and likeable characters.
I think Lucifer has all the elements of a great show – mystery, crime solving, the supernatural and humor. I hope we get a Season Two!
Season 2! Love the show!
Love, love, love this show!! It is one of three shows that I actually look forward to watching consistently EVERY week! Please don’t cancel this show. I’m a Christian with a wicked sense of humor and I look forward to seeing the human conflicts that we all have and that I’ve imagined occur on the spiritual realm as well.
I absolutely love love love Lucifer!! It’s definitely not for children so those moms are the ones that should be cancelled if they are letting their children watch it!! I found it very entertaining sexy funny…please don’t cancel the show!!
This show is absolutely one of a kind and is extremely well balanced in its weird combination of tragedy, horror, fantasy and comedy. Love the show and a season 2 is very much desired!!!!
