A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
This is my favorite show, please don’t cancel it
The formula is well known, but the title character has such charm, flair and humor it almost makes the Devil adorable. Save, Save, Save, PLEASE
Keep the show definately. Lucifer is not only hilarious but like a breath of fresh air to an already stale show line up!!
My husband and I really enjoy the show but had heard from a number of people it was cancelled, thats why I checked on line. Maybe there needs to be an ad campaion to let people know that it is still an ongoing series
Keep the show the writing is so sarcastic and funny. Everyone I have told about it loves the show. Love Lucifer’s accent it is very sexy!!
Lucifer is great show–love the wit and the one-liners as well as the characters. Tom Ellis is so easy to look at…..hope it gets renewed for another season.
Keep the show it is funny witty charming sexy
Great show. I’m guessing it’s American moms who are bleeding about the show, very dramatic lot over there. Here in the UK we are a bit more sensible and see past the Lucifer brand as just light entertainment for adults. By the way moms kids shouldn’t be watching it as it contains violence!
It is only some groups that are protesting the show but it is those same groups who were against the Harry Potter series of books. AND I strongly doubt those groups even read Harry Potter or watched an episode of Lucifer. I live in Canada and I think Lucifer is extremely well written and plotted. The main character is not confined to being a one dimensional being but is very complex. Even the other characters are being developed
Keep!! Love this show – very entertaining, and unique.
One of the best new shows on TV! I was skeptical at first, but I was hooked when they had the devil going to therapy – I love that concept! Some of his comments and references have lead me back to the Bible for reference – Don’t know what these Mom’s are complaining about. Please keep this series going – I want to know why Chloe Decker doesn’t fall under his spell (and why Lucifer is drawn to her). Great characters all together on this show – way to go with casting!
Perhaps Lucifer is drawn to Chloe because she is his opposite; she is a giver and he is a taker. Perhaps she fills the void in his life but he doesn’t know how to articulate that and the same goes for Chloe’s feelings for Lucifer. Excluding Linda, Chloe is the only human who accepts Lucifer as being Lucifer and isn’t bothered by it. What is interesting in “Pops” this is the first time Lucifer tells Trixie not to touch him. Makes you wonder what he senses and where in his progress he is. Chloe and Lucifer are the perfect match… Read more »
I love Lucifer! I find Tom Ellis funny and absolutely adorable. Never miss the show.
I love the show!!! It’s at least something new. I also think that it is pretty dumb that people are saying that it creates sympathy for the real devil. I’m sorry but the show is a show if people can’t keep that separated then it is there own damn problem.
Please keep Lucifer!!! My friends and I absolutely enjoy the show!!!! Love the funny side to it!!!we all make sure we r home and watching Monday night’s!!! It’s an amazing show with GREAT actors
This show is FANTASTIC! BRILLIANT! EXCELLANT WRITING & CAST. Not at all what you would expect! The devil actually doing good deeds! Helping to bring bad people to justice. Love Love Love!!!!
I really liked this show and hope it continues.
