A new dramatic TV series on FOX, Lucifer created a bit of an uproar before it even premiered. The One Million Moms group wants the show to be cancelled and some religious people feel the same way. That’s not likely to have an effect on the show’s future but the ratings sure will. How’s the Lucifer TV show doing? Will it be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
On the Lucifer TV show, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis) has abandoned his throne and retired to Los Angeles. Charming, charismatic and devilishly handsome, he’s enjoying his retirement while owning a nightclub. His bliss is disturbed when a beautiful pop star is brutally murdered outside of his club. He starts to have feelings of compassion for the first time in billions of years and ends up helping a homicide detective (Lauren German). The rest of the cast includes Lesley-Ann Brandt, Kevin Alejandro, Rachael Harris, D. B. Woodside, and Scarlett Estevez.
The series debuted in January to a 2.43 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 7.16 million viewers. That was a very positive start, especially considering the state of the rest of FOX’s drama series.
In week two, the ratings fell to a 1.95 in the demo and 6.0 million viewers, a decline of nearly 20% in the demo. The numbers have essentially kept falling lower each week (though there was a slight bump upward in week seven). Last week’s installment, episode eight, hit a new low in the ratings and hit a 1.21 in the demo and 3.86 million.
The eight episodes have averaged a 1.63 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.08 million viewers.
The rest of the FOX schedule is in poor shape so it’s currently the network’s third-highest rated drama of the season (behind Empire and The X-Files). That may be enough to secure Lucifer a second season but it’s very concerning that the series continues to lose viewers. That may be enough to sink the series. We’ll likely have to wait until May to find out for sure.
But, what do you think? Do you like the Lucifer TV show? If you ran the network, would you cancel or keep it?
Definitely renew, its a fun fantasy show and not meant to be taken seriously, it’s witty and entertaining.
I love this show! It’s a hoot and does make you think.
Definitely keep it!! Such a fun show!
I hope they renew for season 2. This is one of my favorite shows on tv. We look so forward to it every week.
Definitely keep it! This is my favorite show this year and it is the highlight of my TV week!
I look forward to Lucifer every week. It’s witty satire keeps me laughing fron beginning to end. Too many good shows get cancele due to statistics. Do those include people who dvr programs? Where do this numbers cone from? I have an antenna, how does anyone know what in watching? I’m sure in not alone here. Fox needs to keep this one going, after all, they don’t have anything else worth watching on.
I am in love with this serie, I love the writing, the comedy, the actors which by the way was great casting could not have picked better, it gives a new take on the Angels and the devil story
I can not wait to see it from one week to the next
Please do not cancel the serie. Give it time for word of mouth to work , I know I can’t get enough of it
Brilliance in the making
Thanks
Denise
I was a wee bit “concerned” when it first started bcuz I thought it was a tell tale sign of where the world is heading. But after watching I’ve come to view things more deeply than just the synopsis of the show. The way Lucifer talks and quips about his relationship with father is relatable to the normal human race and the transitions he’s experiencing shows that even though he’s supposed to be and embrace evil he is learning that good can be and feel even better. Even his hardcore sidekick, Maize, is starting to feel the pull towards a… Read more »
