Streaming on the Netflix subscription service, Messiah stars Mehdi Dehbi, Tomer Sisley, Michelle Monaghan, John Ortiz, Melinda Page Hamilton, Stefania LaVie Owen, Jane Adams, Sayyid El Alami, Fares Landoulsi, and Wil Traval. The show chronicles the modern world’s reaction to a man who first appears in the Middle East. Al-Massih (Dehbi) creates a groundswell of international followers around him when he claims to be the eschatological return of ‘Isa (Jesus). Has he been sent by God or, is he a dangerous fraud who’s bent on dismantling the world’s geopolitical order?.
The first season of 10 episodes was released on January 1st. While the show’s season finale left the door open for a second season, Netflix has apparently decided not to continue the story. Actor Wil Traval, who plays Will Mathers in the series, shared the cancellation news via Instagram.
What do you think? Do you like the Messiah TV show? Would you have watched season two of this Netflix series?
I cancelled my Netflix subscription, Amazon is sufficient now……
This series was one of the really interesting things. Its take on on our times issues was much more than entertainment, it was triggering some of the best discussions we had among our friends
I would love to see next season.
Netflix you have a lot of power and influence. Don’t bend for the pressure of ignorance
YES! I’d most certainly watch a second season. Netflix, please bring it back!
Yes! I would’ve watched season 2!
Yes! I would definitely have watched season 2 of Messiah!
Yes! I would definitely have watched Messiah season 2!!!
What a pity! I would have watched season 2 and beyond. Which political groups pressured Netflix to cancel this series?
I would MOST DEFINITELY have watched a Season 2
I would cancel Netflix if it is produced elsrwhere.
In my previous post, I forgot to say that I would definitely watch a Season 2…a Season 3….etc. The story must continue to be told. We are in this world together…. there’s more that could unite us, even in all the different religions, the message of Love one another unites us all. Messiah was trying to spread that message…
Messiah is an incredible story, told by talented writers, directors, and of course fabulous actors. I think it was acted so believably, that it scared some religious groups, which caused an uproar, scaring Netflix at the start of the show. They held their ground during the airing of the show, but then the world fell apart with Covid 19, pausing the ability to shoot on location. Even though Messiah beat The Crown with viewership, Netflix didn’t seem like it could handle geo political religious contraversy coupled with a real disaster. Messiah could have just been postponed. What a shame, that… Read more »
I was so looking forward to season 2. I am extremely disappointed that Netflix. I will be watching more & more of Hulu & Amazon In the future and encouraging everyone I know to do the same. I loved the series…. I think imo that Netflix didn’t didn’t have the guts to stand up to the haters who complained about the series. What a shame.
Messiah was the best series in Netflix history with season 1 ending unresolved. I was personally not planning to watch it until a discerning Christian friend recommended it. My wife and I have been anxious to see it renewed. Netflix should work on getting better writers (improved vocabularies, limiting F Bombs per sentence to a believable level, political evenhandedness) and concepts and hold on to rare gems like Messiah.
This is a vote to renew Messiah and to clean up your house.
It’s very disappointing! and they made Season 2 of “Dead to Me”?? For heavens sake!
Seriously?! C’mon, I know a lot of people aren’t ready for this kind of entertainment but a lot of us absolutely are. This was an excellent show with excellent screenplay and top-notch acting. I am so disappointed.
I was looking forward to episode 2. Netflix don’t be afraid to continue series. Loved it
I would have definitely watched a second season. Shortsighted on the decision makers part. The world is ripe for this intriguing series. Rebecca
I loved Messiah, and would have loved to watch a second season. So disappointed that it was cancelled.
