The little sitcom that caused a lot of controversy last summer has quietly ended its run. NBC has cancelled Outsourced after one season on the air.
Outsourced follows a US sales manager, Todd Dempsey (Ben Rappaport), who’s assigned to supervise his company’s call center in India. The sitcom also stars Anisha Nagarajan, Diedrich Bader, Parvesh Cheena, Pippa Black, Rebecca Hazelwood, Rizwan Manji, and Sacha Dhawan.
The NBC sitcom started out decently and it looked like NBC might have a keeper on its hands. Last September, Outsourced debuted to a 3.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 7.49 million viewers. In week two, the demo number fell 22% to a 2.8 rating and 5.85 million viewers but that was still pretty healthy by NBC standards.

Unfortunately, over the course of the season, the ratings just kept dwindling downward. The ratings have gone as low as a 1.4 in the demo with just 2.97 million viewers. Those are horrible numbers for a major network, even NBC.
Outsourced’s season currently averages a 2.1 demo rating and 4.55 million viewers. For NBC, that’s not too bad but the average is only that high because of the early season ratings.
It’s certainly not a shocker than NBC has cancelled Outsourced after just one season. The 22nd and final episode, titled “Rajiv Ties the Bharat, part two,” aired last night.
What do you think? Are you disappointed that there won’t be a second season of Outsourced? Why do you think the TV show didn’t catch on?

What a great show…now gone. How sad. I agree that NBC did not really give it a chance pushing it to 10:30. The cast was quite entertaining. I will miss all the of them.
Pushing Outsourced to 10:30 made me mad because I enjoyed watching it after The Office, but 10:30 was too late for me. I had to record it or watch it on Hulu.com
If NBC doesn’t want Outsourced, I’m sure there’s another network that does.
Mercifully NBC cancelled this lame show. Gupta was funny sometimes but his comedy was uneven. The show celebrated hedonistic sex and thus was who cares about characters so casual about sex?
Rebecca Hazelwood had nothing to do and if the show was renewed I would have been surprised to see her return.
PLEASE do NOT cancel outsourced! PLEASE! My friends and family are faithful viewers. The only problem we have is the 10:30 time slot. We have not missed an episode. IF we do not get the latest episode we go to NBC to watch or our cable on demand. This has given us a new LOVE of indian culture. I have learned so much. I reasearch the Holidays and customs because of outsourced. OUTSOURCED IS OUTSTANDING and funny! The only people who may not like it are biased culturally. I think it is funny and culturally enriching. The cast is so… Read more »
I’m so upset that Outsourced was cancelled. It was one of my favorite shows & I wish NBC would bring it back…changing its timeslot was a huge mistake…
Liberals screaming racism is destroying more than free speech and politics, they’re also destroying good television shows.
I am so going to miss this show. I loved the movie, and thought that the show would suck, but was very pleasantly surprised. Bring it back! I think your playing with the times was the only reason it died. I think the original line up was the best.
stupide décision to stop now, very different , good and interesting interesting to discover a other country
Please show must go on
Outsourced was cancelled? Really? Due to the nature of the business I am in (information technology), I felt Outsourced was more realistic than any “reality show” on network television. Obviously, not enough people watched the show…I am convinced that most people didn’t understand the underlying plot of the show–or at least were not able to believe it.
Goddammit, NBC! You SUCK! My family and I LOVE this show and always make a point to watch it. KEEP OUTSOURCED ON THE AIR!!!!!
Man, I don’t want to believe this. I loved outsourced. Damn you NBC, Damn you.
Screw you NBC. First you make me change networks for conan and now this. There is nothing left on that network.
If NBC would have left the time slot alone I believe it would have done much better. I loved the show and it’s one of the very few I made a specific point to watch. There isn’t much about network TV that excites me but this one did. What a shame!
NBC you suck you suck you suck! What am I going to do without Gupta and Rajiv and Madhuri now. They always brought a smile to my face. I really really hope they can make another show.
Outsourced was a perfect show to go along with The Office. When they were on back to back, ratings were great. Hey NBC – if you move a new show to 10:30 at night you’re asking for it to fail!!
