Lifetime‘s new, competitive reality series, Project Runway Junior, features young designers, between the ages of 13 and 17. Young is the context, the watchword, and not how this story makes a body feel.
Entertainment Weekly reports that when Tim Gunn said her work-in-progress was looking, “A little Gilligan’s Island,” Ysabel, a 17 year old designer from California, laughed it off. In a later interview, the girl then confesses, “I really don’t know what Gilligan’s Island is. Maybe a classy, chic island. You never know.” Probably not, dear.
Granted, Gilligan’s Island premiered on CBS, September 26, 1964. The series was cancelled after three seasons, with the finale airing April 17, 1967, which stranded not just the castaways, but also the audience, since it was not written as a series finale.
It is entirely possible and even somewhat likely that Ysabel’s parents hadn’t been born during the first run of Gilligan’s Island. Still, the series ran in syndication for decades, spawned TV movies, animated spin-offs, and must have come up in a solid third of all discussions about ABC‘s hit drama, Lost.
