What’s This TV Show About?
An ABC comedy-drama, The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson, and Eric Winter. The story centers on John Nolan (Fillion), a small-town guy who, after a life-changing experience, decides to pursue his dream of being an LAPD officer. Now he’s the oldest rookie on the force, and the brass thinks he’s just having a midlife crisis. He’s got to keep up with his younger co-workers (not to mention young criminals) or he’ll risk lives. Maybe though, he can use the experience he’s gained with age, and the determination he has developed over the years, to make a real go of it. Either way, he’s got a secret weapon — his sense of humor.

Telly’s Take
Will ABC cancel or renew The Rookie for season two? The ratings haven’t been very good but I suspect the network will give this series every chance to succeed. My guess is that it will be cancelled but ABC could renew it and make some changes to try to improve the ratings. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. What do you think? Are you glad that The Rookie TV show has been renewed for a second season? How would you feel if ABC had cancelled this TV series, instead?
Love the Rookie, hope it comes back. Been rewatching Season 1 on Hulu. Great characters and story lines. Hoping for renewal.
I usually do not watch ABC for ANYTHING but The Rookie was worth leaving NCIS New Orleans to watch. If they cancel it I will return to CBS for better programming!!!
I didn’t get to watch it every week, but what I did see I liked a lot. Here’s hoping that there’s at least a second season, if not more.

Everyone needs to remember that ABC does everything halve A**ed backwards, so don’t get your hopes up of it going the distance.
Not only does ABC develop few & far between scripted series, but the fact that they waffle so much when it comes renewal time, costs them viewers, and costs them the best actors (as they sign up with other networks’ series), often while their ABC series is still in limbo. ABC has the worst management, which in turn attracts the worst writers & series developers. And they program for the least common denominator, preferring brainless reality series and of their scripted shows, shows that don’t stand on their own dramatically & instead attract their audience via titillation and dramatic soap… Read more »
