What’s This TV Show About?
An ABC comedy-drama, The Rookie stars Nathan Fillion, Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, Titus Makin, Mercedes Mason, Melissa O’Neil, Afton Williamson, and Eric Winter. The story centers on John Nolan (Fillion), a small-town guy who, after a life-changing experience, decides to pursue his dream of being an LAPD officer. Now he’s the oldest rookie on the force, and the brass thinks he’s just having a midlife crisis. He’s got to keep up with his younger co-workers (not to mention young criminals) or he’ll risk lives. Maybe though, he can use the experience he’s gained with age, and the determination he has developed over the years, to make a real go of it. Either way, he’s got a secret weapon — his sense of humor.

Will ABC cancel or renew The Rookie for season two? The ratings haven’t been very good but I suspect the network will give this series every chance to succeed. My guess is that it will be cancelled but ABC could renew it and make some changes to try to improve the ratings. I’ll update this page with breaking developments. I love the Rookie. It is a fantastic show and very refreshing. All the actors are great and especially “the Rookie.” I loved him on Castle. Please renew as it has outstanding story lines.
Rookie is an awesome refreshing out look on police shows please don’t cancel !!!!! I look forward to it every week it has some great actors.
“The Rookie” is a great show, with a great cast. It’s highly reminiscent of Castle (IMO) – ie, humor, well-written cast, & entertaining crimes/plot(s). If ABC cancels “The Rookie,” it’s making a HUGE mistake that I’d hope another network would subsequently scoop up (eg, Fox w/ “Last Man Standing”). I give the show ; I love it.
Have been checking to online to see if The Rookie has been renewed, please renew, it is an awesome show. Watch it every week and record the series. I love Nathan and the whole cast is wonderful!

The show is full of cliches and and unpleasant tropes, not the least of which is the romance between Nathan’s character and the much younger rookie. I tried to hang with it because of Nathan, but cancelling it would be good. He deserves a better vehicle for his talent.

It’s an okay show, but I think ABC is showing signs that it will be cut loose. I think ABC has made their choice between it and A Million Little Things and decided to keep the latter. It was a half-way decent show, but a shame that it’ll be gone. Tvgrimreaper and CancelBear both agree with me.
REALLY LOVE THIS SHOW. It show officers in a very human light and the fact that it’s based on a real officer makes it that much more human. I hope it get’s renewed for a second season. I hate it when I get attached to a good show and after 1 or 2 se asons they pull the plug. Eli Stone, Body of Proof were short lived. Even a good seasoned series such as Major Crimes with 6 seasons was not immune. TNT killed it because they wanted to atract a younger audience but they are churning out so so… Read more »
LOVE, LOVE THE ROOKIE. It’s a great show. Nathan is awesome as are all the actors. It’s great that it shows what our officers go through on a daily basis & makes me think of the reality of our first responders.
The Rookie has it all – humor and drama with compelling characters. Please bring it back for a second season.
