Despite its big-name cast and a strong debut in its freshman year, the Shades of Blue TV show on NBC never quite lived up to expectations in the Nielsen ratings. After it dropped in season two, NBC issued a back-door cancellation, when it announced the third and final season premiere date. While we don’t have wonder whether Shades of Blue will be cancelled or renewed for season four, we’re keeping an eye on the ratings, to help us assess the chances of other NBC TV shows. It will also be interesting to see if the ratings improve for the final installment, so stay tuned.
An NBC crime drama, Shades of Blue stars Jennifer Lopez, Ray Liotta, Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca, Hampton Fluker, and Sarah Jeffery. The mystery thriller follows Harlee Santos (Lopez) and her work “family” of Brooklyn detectives, including the enigmatic Lt. Matt Wozniak (Liota), whose shades of blue skew grey.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly in the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
8/20 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated chart, please try reloading the page or view it here.
For comparisons: The second season of Shades of Blue averaged a 0.76 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.303 million total viewers (live + same day ratings).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Is the Shades of Blue TV series ending at the right time? If it were your call, would NBC cancel or renew this TV show for a fourth season?
I am very displeased about the cancellation of shades of blue for season 4, this was a great show and I looked forward to seeing it every week. I don’t watch many shows but this one was the best. Praying you reconsider. Loved the show and the cast!!
I am really disappointed and upset that shades of blue won’t be back on. It was the best drama out there. But I’m sorry I don’t fall in the 18-49 age categories for ratings, I’m 63 I still feel like I’m 18 to 49 and I wish you would not cancel this show I love it
Wow NBC.. bad move. One of the best shows out there. Silly that you would want to take off a show that everyone loves. Makes no sense. Shooting yourself in the foot on this one!
The ratings for this show are Vile and Disgusting. Much better shows with much better ratings have been cancelled. This is supposed to be the last season. Make sure it is.
I would renew the show. One of a very few shows that my husband & I sit on the edge of our seats thru the whole show. I swear that neither one of us breathe the whole time that it’s on. I can’t imagine how that they r going to end this show in a satisfactory way to viewers in one more hour !! I think that it needs a whole 3 hrs,—a whole nite !!!! Or another season !!!!
Please don’t cancel this show. Ray Liotta and Jennifer Lopez are great together. I am so impressed with Jennifers’ talent. More shows like this.
Omg im in love woth this show i cannot believe they cancelled it. Why?????
Please reconsider, Shades Of Blue is an excellent show! Not many good ones left out there, seems there are all getting cancelled. Love this show, please renew!
NBC, PLEASE RECONSIDER!!!! Every time I watch this show I am on the edge of my seat throughout the whole hour. Never has a show done this to me. Great story, great actors, great, great, great. I have to say. I couldnt watch it at the time slot it was on because I get up so early in the morning. I watched it the next day after work. It killed me all day Monday wondering what happened on the show. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, RECONSIDER!!!!!
Shades of blue is my favorite show right now! Love jlo and ray liotta pair. Count down the days of the week until the next show. Please don’t call Cancel it!
PLEASE NBC DO NOT CANCEL “Shades of Blue” ! Let it run for season 4 and future seasons! Everytime we get a great show and a person its in to it , It seems they cancel it! Everyone cant watch it whennit aire they have to watch and catch up on hulu because of work! Please save it!
great show the inly flaw is stahl making him a stalker it would have been better if he was a corrupt fbi agent and a mole for fbi thats the only thing wrong but its sad to see the show come to an end i like the acting by Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta i think they make a good acting couple
Best show, please do not cancel
Best show ever! Please don’t cancel!!!!
I love this show and wished it wan’t ending, however the first episode of season three I really wished they wouldn’t have killed off Nava. Harlee and him were a good pair.
I agree with you. Nava and Harlee were a good match. However, I did not connect with the season premiere last night. First, they waited WAY too long for season 2 to start. Yeah, boo-hoo Jlo…too busy. Also, to me, she acted as if she was annoyed having to do season 2, let alone season 3. We get it. You like your dance show and other stuff better. I think the show can go on without her. And I am a big Jlo fan.. go figure.
I agree
This is the best show on TV
