If The CW boss is to be believed, the network already wants to make season 13 and more — as long as the Supernatural stars want to make the show. But, what if the ratings continue to fall? Is it inevitable that the series will be cancelled or will it just keep going and going? Stay tuned.
On Supernatural, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles), continue their fight against scary stuff from the underworld. Last season, the Winchester brothers found themselves battling an apocalyptic force: the Darkness. Now, rallying help from their human and supernatural allies, Sam and Dean are going toe-to-toe with the most destructive enemy they’ve ever seen. Actors Misha Collins and Mark A. Sheppard return. Guests this season are expected to include Samantha Smith, Elizabeth Blackmore, Ruth Connell, Kim Rhodes, Briana Buckmaster, Kathryn Newton, Katherine Ramdeen, Rick Springfield, Kadeem Hardison, Kara Royster, and Adam Rose.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show’s likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available — usually the next day, around 11:30am EST/8:30am PST. Refresh to see the latest.
5/19 update: You can see the latest night’s ratings in context.
Note: If you’re not seeing the updated charts, please try reloading the page. You can also see them here.
For comparisons: The 11th season of Supernatural averaged a 0.70 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 1.78 million total viewers (Live+SD).
Note: These are the Live + Same Day Ratings which include “live” viewing plus delayed DVR viewing, up until 3am local time that same night. Ratings marked with an “*” are the fast affiliate ratings and will be updated with the Live+SD numbers when they are made available. Typically, networks get paid for C+3 ratings which includes DVR viewing within three days of the original airing when commercials are watched. Those numbers are rarely released to the press.
What do you think? Do you like the Supernatural TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a 13th season?
1/8 update: The CW has renewed Supernatural for season 13. Details here.
I usually don’t watch within that 3 day ratings thing! Most times I have 3 or 4 episodes built up because I just don’t have the time to watch them right away. And I know there are lots of people out there just as busy and watch when they can.
There is a lot people, like myself, in our late fifties, that have gotten hooked on Supernatural. Please don’t cancel this show. The stories are great, the main actors have grown so much. There is still a great story to be told here.
no matter how crazy the show gets i still watch i love this show so much its one of my fav and i would keep watching it over and over there needs to be a season 13 the show deserves to carry on bc its one of the best
I love this show. Always have. I watch it on-demand though. I really hope that’s not how it ends. I definitely didn’t want the last episode ever to be a cliffhanger like that.
I really hope that’s not how it ends neither, but if it is to end, end it well. Give them a good life. They earned or send them to heaven with Bobby “those damn idjeats”.
I will never understand why or how this crap goes on. Not even two million viewers a week!
Ah, Supernatural! It’s never been a ratings game for this series. It’s been a experimental lab project first for the WB, now the CW…writer’s lab, that is. It’s not just die-hard fans of the show who’ve lived through the ever revolving group of writers and producers and their interpretation of the otherworldly and apocalyptic visions…which have, at times, pulled from up to and including classic Poe horror, the X-Files, Shakespearean themes, Biblical themes, mind-numbing mythological reconstruction, the Odd Couple, and apocalyptic video games, you name it, they’ve filched it. And if the CW is smart, they’ll hold on to the… Read more »
I love the show. It did have a lot more humor in the writing a few years ago.
Ratings don’t mean anything anymore though. I never watch anything live or on dvr. CW is counting that and that’s why the show will continue. Supernatural has a huge fanbase. It’s just don’t expect us all to watch it live every week. Not to mention all the merch Supernatural has. That’s what the CW boss is seeing.
I love this show to pieces, but I would rather them end the show with some dignity than to have the show canceled, and not saying the storyline sucks cause I have like a lot of the episodes this season, but I feel like the writers don’t know where to go with the show. On another note, I really would like to see the guys in different things too.
In my opinion it will be interesting to see how will they end the series, will Sam and Dean continues the fight against evil, or will they be killed off, can’t see them being killed because they both have died dozen times and brought back. AND I would to see the final episode made into a full length movie either in the theater or made for tv movie of the week like the old days because I think the show is that good and big to do that, would not mind being on the show myself.
Love the show! I hope this show will keep on going. I know good things have to come to a end put not yet. We need more series please keep on making this show. we need it as it is the best.
All time favourite show love as much now as when it started Please we really need this show to keep going as long as the cast are willing to make it.
This show really needs to end. It has gone way beyond what Erik Kripke intended. The main characters all seem stale to me.
Agreed
I hope they never cancel this show. It’s my favorite. Well lets be honest Dean is my fav, but I do LOVE the show as well. I love to have a little Supernatural marathon. Please Please keep it going
Sam is my favourite; especially since he was soulless, soulless Sam was hotter than Sam WITH a soul. lol. but I still love him either way. I hope they never cancel it either, I watch it all the time when I’m upset Andy I’m automatically better
The way Misha Collins keeps bad mouthing our president and the country. Or Jared raising funds for planned parenthood so they can keep performing abortions has turned a large number of viewers off. I think actors and actresses should keep their political opinions to themselves.
I seem to have missed some of this. Mature woman as I am, voted Trump, and still love these guys. Can’t help myself. They are like my own sons. I actually think it may be getting back on track. Often see their reruns for 3 hours in the am. Could be I’m the one that’s crazy. Born in New Orleans. Home of the totally natural Supernatural. But, come on guys…..stop the political stuff. It’s kinda boring. Anyway, what’s up with the Colt being melted. Fix that! Cut Jared some slack, the air in Austin may be thin. He is just… Read more »
You seem like such a great person, open minded and caring to others even if they don’t share your beliefs. That’s such a wonderful quality! Good for you
I disagree completely. You shouldnt stop watching a show for the actors beliefs anyways, that’s just utterly ignorant. Misha and Jared’s beliefs not affecting the plot or layout of the show, therefore they should be able to continue spreading their beliefs like the human beings they are.
