Terriers aired for one season on FX before it was cancelled by the network. It was not an easy decision to make though, according to CEO of FX.
John Landgraf spoke about the decision to cancel the series in 2010 in an interview with Assignment X.
He said:
“Well, I had that call on TERRIERS because not only did I like it, but you – collective you, the critics – really loved it and even though it had a really small audience, the audience that watched it, loved it. And so I really honestly felt the need to address myself to the people who were going to be really disappointed, as well as I was going to be disappointed.”
Were you a fan of Terriers on FX? Were you sad to see it cancelled? Tell us what you think.
It was a great show and we had just met his sister too. There was a lot of story there. This cancellation was as bad a “Better off Ted” being dropped.
One of the worst programming decisions I can remember. And that’s saying something. Mr. Landgraf still can’t give a coherent reason why they cancelled other than the usual ratings excuse. When you have a new show that critics love and a small but devoted fan base, a network, especially one like FX, should promote and nurture the show. that’s how you build brand loyalty and draw the best creative talent. Many the mediums finest programs were born this way and Terriers could have been one of them.
What a waste.
Great cast, played very nicely off each other’s performances. Down to earth plot with identifiable roles; dirty finger nails and far from super ripped bodies. Outstanding scene flow in all episodes. Much too classic for the “Survival of the Fattest” crowd. Though I’d really appreciate its restart I fear the “magic” of the moment has passed and many of the cast have acquired other experiences that would stultify the raw skills displayed then. As with a chance encounter not pursued, it is best to just recall with a trace of sadness.
One of the best of the best shows. Why cancel? One season was not enough. BRING IT BACK.
