TV show description:
From creator Tim Doyle, The Kids Are Alright TV show is an ensemble sitcom, set in the 1970s. The series follows the Cleary family, a traditional Irish-Catholic clan, as they live out their lives amidst the upheaval of the 1970s.
The story unfolds in a great Los Angeles working-class neighborhood. The family is headed up by married couple Peggy (McCormack) and Mike Cleary (Cudlitz), who are raising eight rowdy and energetic sons. Because this is the 70s, the boys live most of their lives outside, and they do so with a lack of supervision that might cause modern helicopter parents to faint.
Their lives are chugging along more as less as expected, until the Clearys’ eldest son, Lawrence (Straley) comes home to announce he’s quitting the seminary. Instead of pursuing the priesthood, he wants to embark on a mission to “save the world.” Mike and Peggy never expected to be raising their brood in such turbulence, but as the song goes, the times they are a-changing.
Series Finale:
Episode #23 — Irish Goodbye
Peggy struggles with Lawrence’s decision to move out of the house, especially after she discovers that he is secretly moving in with a girlfriend she’s never met. Lawrence’s determination to keep Peggy out of his personal life only causes her to investigate further, while Mike welcomes his departure. Meanwhile, Timmy can’t find his ventriloquist dummy, Knuckles, and learns that Joey took him without asking.
First aired: May 21, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like The Kids Are Alright TV series? Should this ABC TV show have been cancelled or renewed for season two?
This is a great show. When you live through the 70’s you can definitely appreciate shows like this. I laughed at every episode.
I grew up in the 70’s and this show hit the nail on the head! I laughed at every episode! It’s a shame it got got cancelled. Hopefully another network will pick it up! I LOVE IT!
This is one of the funniest sitcoms on today! I lived through the 70’s & this hits the nail on the head! Why do the networks ALWAYS cancel the BEST shows?! Are they going to replace it with ANOTHER reality show!
This was a Great Show figures they would cancel it, anything worth watching always gets canceled!!
This was an extremely funny show with quick wit and dialogue… says much about the abysmal taste in sitcoms that this Gem would be cancelled.
I enjoyed this series. So sad to see it cancelled
I enjoyed this show. Sorry to see it canceled. I grew up in the 70’s
NOOOO! This show is by far the BEST comedy on television! My husband NEVER watches sitcoms and we BOTH could not wait for a new airing on Tuesday nights. It was like traveling back in time and finding humorous all the things our parents and ourselves did/said. Each son represented a different personality type, therefore EVERYONE could identify with this creative, comic masterpiece. Cannot express my sadness enough over its cancellation. I have a feeling some may have been too thin-skinned for this type of satire.
I think it stinks that this show is being canceled. This show is so funny, so clever and each character is so relatable. This show takes me back to a simpler time, makes me laugh and when the 1/2 is over, makes me feel good. I think we all need this show to escape from the reality of life for a while. So I ask, What the heck was ABC thinking? Why on earth would they cancel a show like this??? KEEP THIS SHOW ON THE AIR!!!
I can’t believe this show has been canceled. So well written and impressively acted by a great cast. I truly looked forward to watching this every week. I can only hope that another network is smart enough to by the rights.
One of the best comedy shows on TV. My wife and I really enjoy it because it reminds us of our own childhood family life with a bit of good comedy. ABC needs to keep this show on, they often cancel shows that my wife and I like.
What a great show! The casting is spot on. Sure hope the powers that be reverse their decision. Would enjoy seasons of The Kids Are Alright.
my wife and I LOVE this show , it extremely funny and I am extremely disappointed it has been canceled . ABC has made a HUGE MISTAKE !!
MY husband and I watch this show together. We love it! So, so funny – love this family. Please bring it back. We don’t watch many (2, 8, 30) old fashion channels anymore. But found this one worth it! May another network will pick it — Please. Great casting too!
Kids are alright….another season please!!!
