Mindy Kaling created her own sitcom for FOX, The Mindy Project. Will it be a ratings smash for the network or will it be quietly cancelled instead? Stick around to find out.
The first season of The Mindy Project typically airs Tuesday nights at 9:30pm on the FOX network. Aside from Kaling, the sitcom’s cast also includes Anna Camp, Chris Messina, Dana DeLorenzo, Ed Weeks, and Zoe Jarman.

Compared to Raising Hope’s second season premiere a year earlier, FOX was down by 23% in the demo (vs a 3.1 rating) and down by 30% in viewers (vs 6.73 million). Mindy was in third place in its timeslot and lost 11% of its New Girl lead-in. On the positive side, it outperformed fellow FOX newbie Ben and Kate at 8:30pm.

These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.

My two college aged daughters and I love The Mindy Project! It’s the only show we all make an effort to watch so we can discuss after each episode. The show is really clever and we love listening for all the references to pop culture. We loved Josh and Mindy together and hope he comes back to visit. And we love the Danny/Mindy banter. Morgan is really funny too. Can’t wait to see how the show develops.

Mindy Kaling makes a nice sidekick and I know she did most of the writing on The Office. But I’m at best lukewarm. Wife loves this show, so I guess I’ll continue to watch or take up woodworking in the garage…
I was very happily surprised by the show, I laughed a lot during the episodes I saw.

So, is the Mind Project a project where you try and take a homely, not-very-funny Indian woman and try to sell her to an American audience because you’ve totally run out of good ideas? Maybe they just need more laugh tracks because the average American consumer of sitcoms is little more than a Pavlovian dog that will think anything is funny if you play a laugh track after the most insipid, predictable, formulaic lines.

I love Mindy Kaling. I think she’s hilarious (from Matt&Ben to the Office and now the Mindy Project.) I think her comedy is exceptionally relatable for young women, but even my husband has become addicted to her show, and he doesn’t normally enjoy comedies.
Also, her book Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (and Other Concerns) is freaking hilarious!!!
If this show gets cancelled, it will be a downright travasty.
I LOVE MINDY KALING. I would be so disappointed if this show was cancelled because it is one of the few sit coms that I enjoy. I think Mindy is such a likable person i just finished reading her book and i loved it. I love everything about this show.

I love this show and so does my husband and so does my 13 year old daughter, who usually has a hard time watching any woman on TV who doesn’t conform to a certain 10 year old girl’s limited ability ( thin, blonde, etc). The Mindy Project is hilarious and we love Dr. Lahori, Morgan, Danny, Betsy and the British doc. The blonde friend was unsympathetic and unlikable. Sorry to see the receptionist go. It really irritates me when the great and smart drama like 3 IB got cancelled and we have some stupid medical dramas like Mindy Project instead. Am I the only one who thinks that Mindy is too unattractive and untalented to watch? She is puking ugly period.
Julie, you just seem REALLY confused and NOT very bright. The Mindy Project is not a drama, it is a comedy. When the Writers Guild nominated show’s characters speak, there is not a canned laugh-track inserted to let you know when you’re supposed to laugh. You have to listen and think. And yes, Julie, you ARE the only one who thinks Mindy is unattractive and untalented. Not surprised that the incomplete thoughts would be expressed by a racist like yourself….

I came over here just to see the ratings, & I haven’t
seen it yet…… But, I don’t think that bashing a young actress’s
looks is called for.
Albeit, I think it’s quite courageous & creative to write a show
for one self, pitch it to a network, & give it a go.
When I get a chance, I’d like to check it out.
I have a feeling though that this young actress from The
Office may have just typecast herself in another role
of a desperate romantic again, & she should stay away from

I have watched three episodes, and that is enough for me. The show has some funny bits, but most of it just reminds me that I am watching some very sad people. I knew it was time to move on when the strongest part of the show is the musical score.
Of all the shows that could have been picked up, how does an unmemorable, unattractive and certainly not funny actress, like Mindy Kaling, get a show on Network television? Please cancel so we can move on to better things in life.
LOTS OF TRUTH IN WHAT YOU”RE SAYING!!! So many talented actors struggle to achieve some form of success and are, sadly, unable to break through. Mindy is amateurish acting from the lead character…her voice grates on the ears. Is this the best that television can offer???
