To little surprise, TNT has cancelled their low-rated drama, Trust Me. Despite having two former network stars as the show’s leads, the series never took off.
Trust Me revolves around a fictional Chicago ad agency. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack play co-workers and friends whose relationship changes when one of them gets promoted. Others in the cast include Geoffrey Arend, Sarah Clarke, Mike Damus, Griffin Dunne, and Monica Potter.
The show debuted on January 26th of this year, following TNT’s successful The Closer. It attracted 3.4 million viewers, losing about half of its lead-in’s audience. The second episode dropped to just 1.9 million viewers and things got worse from there. The network began airing episodes in double doses by mid-March and the last two installments ran on April 7th.
McCormack obviously saw the writing on the wall and signed on to a new ABC pilot last month. Now, TNT has made it official, announcing that Trust Me won’t be returning for a second year.
The network’s executive VP and head of programming, Michael Wright, believes that Trust Me was a creative success but just couldn’t find an audience.

I absolutely love the show. Something different. Love the characters. I normally don’t even respond to comments or whatever but this time I am doing it. That’s how much I want this show to be back on TV.
I love the show. Cancel is stupid decision.
FINALLY SOMETHING DIFFERENT TO WATCH AND ITS GONE ALREADY
TIRED OF CRIME SHOWS TEEN AGE SHOWS DR AND LAWYER SHOWS
TRUST ME THIS SHOW HAD A LOT GOING FOR IT
LOVE ERIC AND THE REST OF THE GANG
BRING IT BACK
Sorry to disagree, but this show never quite got going. There was talent on the screen but the characters and writing never seemed to find their footing. It initially held promise but soon showed it really didn’t know where to go. It deserves to be gone. If anyone is still interested in a series about advertising, watch the far superior Mad Men.
I love this show, it was great
i am very pissed its been cancelled,
i guess smart shows cant find an audience nowadays 🙂
I’m so upset. I LOVED this show. Marketing is my major (well graphic design for marketing) and I was so excited to see that there was a show for the advertising world. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormick are both great actors and I love Cavanagh’s comedic timing. I guess I am not the target audience as most every new show I DVR turns out to be cancelled after one season. Again, so sad.
Unbelievable! How is it possible that this show couldn’t find an audience?!? Maybe it has something to do with the fact that, these day people are losing their jobs and soon to follow, their cable package. Happened to me – now I have to watch on the internet. Either that, or people are to f@$#&%g stupid to recognize brilliant writing when they see it!
I was really looking forward to this show, love both the guys.Couldn’t get enough of the show.
That sucks.
Personally I never watched the show because I live in Canada and I don’t have that channel but it looked very interesting during my trip to new york. Nowadays there is no loyalty or commitment in entertainment industries. It’s sad and funny because then they wonder why alot of people are not watching which they call viewer erosion. NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE WATCH TV SHOWS BECAUSE YOU IDIOTS KEEP CANCELING THEM!
Screw it I am never watching any show from on
So sad! This show was great. Appreciated it even more being in the marketing field!
“Trust Me” ….man I was really looking forward to Tuesday nights. I think the show is smart, and has a great cast of characters and actors to play them. Drama, comedy, fun. The show is very today….give it a chance already. People were just starting to talk about it. My wife and I watched regularly…..sometimes 4 times in one night. What a waste. I am so tired of CSI type shows. TNT dropped the ball by canceling something truly original. Wow! TNT gave it a whole 4 months.
The show was amazing, I can’t believe they just cancelled it mid-season. I wish they would have at least given it a chance to finish the season. I wasn’t crazy about the first few episodes but it started getting better and better and more people were beginning to find out about it. Boo TNT.
Lions 1, Creativity 0. Guess the lions take it. Heaven forbid TV should allow word of mouth to spread and develop an audience for more creative, quirky fare like Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone–where I loved Tom Cavanagh in a recurring role as Eli’s dad, and where they had (gasp!) singing and dancing–and Life on Mars vs. yet another clone of ER, CSI, or Law and Order…or even worse, another UN-reality show. (I can’t stand even to listen to commercials for the latter.) It’s so frustrating to discover a show like Kidnapped, get hooked, then find out there’ll be no resolution.… Read more »
I loved the show! I too worked in the ad business and loved the characters. I thoght it had great writing and dialogue. Why does everything have to be shoot ’em up, or reality tv? Comeon bring it back give it a chance to develop a following. Life on Mars was great too, but move it around and pit it against L&O and CSI NY of course it will fail. I loved Starter Wife, Swingtown,Trust Me, Life on Mars, Psych and Leverage – four of my favorite shows are gone. The problem is with my favorite shows you have to… Read more »
I thought the show was getting better and better. The Rolling Rock episode was a high point. Very disappointed that the show was cancelled.
