What’s This TV Show About?
Airing on the NBC television network, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist stars Jane Levy, Skylar Astin, Alex Newell, John Clarence Stewart, Andrew Leeds, Alice Lee, Michael Thomas Grant, Kapil Talwalkar, and Mary Steenburgen. Zoey Clarke (Levy) is a whip-smart computer coder who’s making her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, Zoey, who always preferred podcasts over pop songs, suddenly starts to hear the innermost wants, thoughts, and desires of the people around her – her family, co-workers, and complete strangers – through popular songs. The second season picks up after a tragedy and Zoey and her family begin to recalibrate and navigate their new normal. As she finds herself in a new dynamic at work and in her love life, Zoey’s musical powers continue to both awkwardly complicate and inform her worldview as she attempts to rediscover joy and connect with those around her.

The second season of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist averaged a 0.35 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 1.82 million viewers. Compared to season one, that’s down by 16% in the demo and down by 9% in viewership. Find out how Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist stacks up against other NBC TV shows.

Telly’s Take
Will NBC cancel or renew Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist for season three? The series isn’t a low performer in the regular ratings but does well in streaming and delayed viewing. It also has a passionate fanbase. A co-production of Lionsgate and NBCUniversal, I think that it will be renewed but might move to Peacock for year three. Zoe’s is a brilliant show that only got better, deeper and stronger in season 2. I hope they give it the room to keep growing and let it be a break out show like Schitts Creek which didn’t find its dedicated viewership and cult status until a few seasons in.
Zoey’s extraordinary playlist MUST be renewed. It is entertaining but more importantly, it is a show that tenderly addresses issues such as grief, race, and mental health. It approaches these issues, not in a strident way, but in gentle, thoughtful way. The characters deal with the realities of the loss of a beloved and ill father, a face recognition device that doesn’t recognize Black faces, diagnosing and treating postpartum depression. The characters are appealing and unique. They are realistic and likable. They are not perfect, nor do they have all the answers. The characters are ‘real’ and boy, can they… Read more »
I LOVE THIS SHOW AND I’M CONSTANTLY ANXIOUSLY WAITING FOR THE NEXT EPISODE, PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT!!!

I LOVE THIS SHOW TOO!
I absolutely love love love this show !!!!!!!!!! It’s amazing !!!!! So well done so entertaining it’s awesome!!! It’s diverse it represents a lot of people which I love !!! I adore the two lead guys as well they are sooo cute and talented of course!!!! I’m team Max!!!! I love Zoey and Mo too awesome characters!!!!
I LOVE this show! It’s such a different genre – it’s the best!
I look so forward to watching these talented people! OMG I love the songs the dancing the stories!! Please, please don’t cancel it!!
this is truly a horrible series….in all facets. Not funny, egotistical and moronic. How did it ever get on the air? What a waste of time.
the downside of the second season is that Zoey leaves me speechless for how selfish she is towards Max !!!
Zoey is like the Mary Tyler Moore of the 21st Century. This time, the smart , quirky girl gets to be the BOSS! Personally, I love Season 2. Season 1 had a dismal story with the dying father, and “Which boy should I choose to take care of me?” In Season 2, Zoe finds her power. She makes her mistakes but acknowledges them and works to correct them. Instead of characters falling in love, or pining over lost love, you see them discovering their strengths, creative talents and managing their vulnerabilities. I think that exploring modern social-political issues on a… Read more »
We loved this show (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist) in season one. It went totally downhill in season two. We used to recommend it to people, but unless something changes for the better, we won’t miss it.
I disagree. I loved how these young professionals grew as people in Season 2. I find this show more entertaining because the characters have more depth and sense of purpose than they did in the first season.
What depth are you even talking about? Zoey cannot make up her mind who she wants, One moment she is not ready for a relationship and two weeks later she is. New characters go in and out of this series like a 100 mph merry go round ride with slippery horsies. Max and Mo are running probably the stupidest idea place known to man ( a restaurant that doesn’t cook food and nothing else is really happening with anyone else. The show is a mess and its DVR and streaming numbers are what they are because of Covid. Not a… Read more »
There is a restaurant near me that doesn’t cook food. It is actually a wine bar and it has a menu that you can order from it from the local restaurants in town that deliver your food to the bar. It is a big hit and has been open for a long time. This is possible.
I agree..it grew so much in season 2…so much!
It got far to political in a couple of the shows, which is not what this Extraordinary show is about!
When you say the show got far too political, I think you meant to say? In your opinion, the show dealt too much political ISSUES. Political issues exist in real life and having an issue introduced in the background as part of a character’s identity is a good thing and relatable to the audience. Denying, then recognizing and seeking help for depression makes a positive and inspiring connection to others who are in a similar situation. In my opinion, the humanness of Zoey is one of the that makes Zoey so much more than an ordinary sitcom. The show has… Read more »
Love this show-I enjoyed musicals, Broadway growing up and this is a wonderful variation of that genre . So heartwarming and strong characters.
Hope they keep this quality show.
I would be totally bummed if this series gets cancelled! I love the characters and the music too!!! This is one of my faves!!
We really enjoy the show. We always record it for later viewing. Please renew!
Please continue it. Third season is a must.
Season 2 is a big disappointment!!
Love the craziness and the music- so much talent
Totally agree. It really went downhill in the seconds season.
I think the political undertones are great. We are living in a time of change, with young people leading the way. I find these characters’ personal and workplace struggles relevant. They examine the world around them with precision and address issues of discrimination in an open and reflective manner.
