It wasn’t a great start for the new series but Awake still outperformed the premieres of (essentially-cancelled) The Firm, and (cancelled) The Playboy Club, and Prime Suspect. If the show can stay at this level of ratings, it’s got a very good chance of being renewed for a second season. It’s amazing how poor a show’s ratings can be on NBC and still be one of the best rated shows on the network.
Note: These ratings are collected by the Nielsen company and are the final national numbers. These are different from the fast affiliate numbers which are just estimates of the actual ratings and are reported on by most other outlets. The final nationals are typically released within 24 hours of the programming or, in the case of weekends and holidays, a couple days later.
What do you think? Do you like the Awake TV series? Do you think it should be cancelled or renewed for a second season?
Obviously both realities are real and he’s not in a coma. Somehow, the world must be reconfiguring every day, switching back and forth between the two realities. With episode five most recently, it appears that Britten is not the only one with this ability, but that the serial killer also has this ability to experience both realities. Perhaps there is a way to unite the realities somehow, reuniting his wife and son, and eliminating the chasm between the two realities.
Love this show. Keeps you guessing.
I love this show. And I generally don’t watch much tv. Great premise, great acting, and super creative.
I agree with most others that this show is good and needs time to grow. Problem is that the average tv viewers are morons with the attention span of a flea. The 10pm time slot seems to be the hour most dramas end up. This show takes a bit of brain power to enjoy it. This is good except for the fact that most of the people smart enough to follow along are usually in bed so they can go to work the next day. I hope I’m wrong with this but if NBC keeps the show going it will… Read more »
I’ve been watching so far, but was a little disappointed in the third episode. But since it is different, it likely is not understood by the majority of viewers who have gelatin for a brain and so will be cancelled. There may be intelligent viewers who do not like this show, but how else can you describe all those people who watch reality TV if they don’t have gelatin brains.
The ironic of funny thing is the 2nd show was the best so far. It had a surprising ending which gave us a bit of a shock of what supposedly has happened to this guy’s life and family. I like the show!
I am impressed with the show–it IS well done–the show scripts aren’t predictable, the acting is great, the police drama is interesting and not overly gory, and the characters are becoming increasingly well-developed. The show moves at a good pace, the relationship between Britten and his wife and Britten and his son is believable, and the viewer feels compelled to watch the entire show to find out what happens next–it’s like a great book you can’t put down. I think it has all the makings of a GREAT show, and hope viewing audiences are smart enough to tune and watch–they’ll… Read more »
I just watched last week’s episode, The Little Guy, online. I’m really loving this show. I like shows that make me think. Here’s what I’m thinking after watching the show. Police captain’s statement that they didn’t have to kill off his entire family to unknown man on bench made it clear that both son and wife were killed in accident and that the accident was no accident. Let me know if I’m wrong but the police captain has only been seen in the world where his wife exists. Is that a clue to anyone else? Also, in the wife world,… Read more »
I read it. Yes the show is interesting, and as a previous commenter said, I noticed the recurrence of the number 611. I did a little digging and also found the number 11 (of Le11er Eleven productions who make Awake) also has connections to the story of Lazarus in the Bible…Lazarus rose from the dead (much like Jesus), and I can’t help but think there is some form of a connection there to the Awake universe. I can’t imagine that either world is “real” in the truest sense though…a coma state seems more likely and then that makes this way… Read more »
I think he is either in a coma or dead as well
It sucks that the ratings went down for the 2nd episode. It’s a really great show and I don’t understand why people won’t watch it.But yet they’ll sit in front of their TV and waste time watching garbage like American Idol,The Voice,X-Factor,America’s Got Talent,Survivor, and Dancing with the Stars. All stupid so called “reality” shows, which suck in my opinion.I sometimes think the 10p.m. time slot isn’t a very good one because there are a lot of amazing shows on at 10 that don’t get great ratings.Or it could be,because NBC always cancels their shows after one season with no real endings,so people won’t… Read more »
What do I think of Awake? Well first viewing – I loved it and now still do but… There is no doubt in my mind that our lead guy is actually in a coma himself. There was a car accident with his family, they may have survived and each one takes turns reading to him in the hospital so that is where his dreams take him. He only has one of them with him at one time. They read the newspapers to him and those are the crime stories, the doctors are his doctors and the nurses and additional doctors… Read more »
@Jennifer. You have a good theory about the premise of the series. It is off to a great start and I like the dream within a dream Inception like concepts. The use of 611 in both episodes (an address in episode one and a height in this one is just brilliant) and the “little guy” reference. NBC has pushed the envelope here and I hope audiences come to understand that this could be something special. Plus it has that cop “procedural” aspect that networks seem to have to have. I’ve got my fingers crossed.
Bring Back CHUCK!!!
Give it a chance! im tired of nbc putting on shows for a season then taking them off! they never give the show a chance to take off. If they take this show off ill be furious they did this to me with The Event(great show by-the-way) and The Firm. NBC leave it on for more then one season.
Loved the premiere, will definitely keep watching this show. I thought the pilot was what the movie Inception should have been.
great acting, challenging and I’ll stay with it for sure
Please give this show a chance. It’s one of the best so far. Very intelligent and worth investing in.
