The series finale of Castle aired last night, and showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter have written a heartfelt letter to fans of the cancelled ABC series, TVInsider reports.
Last week, we reported ABC had cancelled the long-running detective series after eight seasons and some last-minute cast shakeups.
In the letter, Hawley and Winter thanked the fans, the cast, and the crew for all of the show’s success:
While we’re still trying to process all the emotions stirred up by recent events, the feeling that stands head and shoulders above all else, is gratitude.
Eight seasons. A hundred and seventy three episodes.
None of it would have been possible without you — our loyal and passionate fans. You are the reason this show survived and thrived. Without you carving out “Castle Mondays” every week, we would never have been able to make the show we love for as long as we did.
So thank you.
And thanks to Andrew Marlowe for creating such a delightful world, centered around a love story for the ages. It was an honor and privilege to shepherd the story of Castle and Beckett this season.
And finally, thank you to our cast and crew, who have been our family for these last eight years. Who elevated every script by investing the best of themselves into each episode. We will miss you profoundly.
Alexi and Terence”
Earlier, we posted star Nathan Fillion’s response to the series’ cancellation.
What do you think? Are you a fan of Castle? Did you find the series finale satisfying?
Two fans for all eight seasons are sad to see the show end. We have looked forward to Monday nights for a long time, and appreciate being entertained by people we cared about. Our thanks to all involved in the production of Castle, and thanks to Nathan, Stana, and the entire cast who we thought of as friends!
Are you kidding me? You cancel one of your best shows? My husband and I never missed a show. Loved it for its blend of humor, a love story, and the drama. Great ensemble of actors! How can you cancel it when you have so many other shows that should go before it, especially the horrible reality/ game shows. Big mistake!
I love this show; the fact that smarts and creativity is celebrated is rare on tv these days!
Hi i cant understand did they die or not ? Im sorry its cancelled i love the show
I am devastated…all my favs are being cancelled. Castle was indeed a love story for the ages. The characters had such depth. My Monday’s are now worthless…along with my Sunday’s because The Good Wife is no more.
I will really miss the show! I have been watching it on Hulu and tune in every Tuesday to watch Monday’s episode. It always made me laugh, smile, guess who did it, and made me look forward to the next week.
I really wish they would have renewed for one last season. I hate to see the show go!! Seems like a lot of good shows are getting cancelled and the stupid reality and game/competition shows are staying on. It should be reversed cause idk who could watch half those reality and game shows, they’re so stupid. Pisses me off that most shows don’t even get a season before they are cancelled, it’s ridiculous. Shows get pulled before they’ve even had a chance. Oh well though, there’s nuttin that can be done about it. Maybe one day it’ll change.
To the Showrunners: You ruined a great show. The ratings plummeted, partially because of Blindspot, partially because you had no clue what you were doing. You gave ABC an excuse to get rid of the show. They took it. Sucking up to Shonda Rimes will hopefully backfire in ABC’s faces. I will be watching a lot of NCIS:LA thanks to you. Thanks.
Those “showrunners” will never see or care about your comment on this site. Tv sucks for me 90% of the time. Castle stayed a longer than most these days and everyone got their little “couple” so be happy at that fact, because most hardly get to see what they want for for that amount of time.
