We’ve received several emails from readers who love CSI: NY and are worried that it’s been cancelled. Will the show ever return? The simple answer is, “Yes, it’s on hiatus until March 30th.” But, while the TV series hasn’t been canned yet, Gary Sinise and company could certainly be in their final season.
It’s no secret that the ratings have declined over the years and that’s probably one of the reasons that CBS moved it to a Friday night timeslot. It still brings in a respectable 10 million viewers each week but is one of the network’s worst performer in the prized 18-49 demographic, even when you adjust for the Friday timeslot. Year-to-year, the show is also down by 7% in the demo.
At the recent TCA press tour, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler noted that, though she loves the CSI shows, “Nothing runs forever. How you handle it, the most important thing is how you respect your audience, how you respect your cast, and being incredibly sensitive to how you wrap up any show when it ends a successful run. But we are in those talking stages now (about how to end the CSIs).”
It’s unlikely that CBS will end all three CSI series this year but they could certainly drop one or two of them. Based on the ratings, the New York version would be first in line to be cancelled.
What do you think? Is this the last season of CSI: NY? Should the series be cancelled or renewed for one more season?

please do not cancel csi ny .cbs should cancel csi miami that show is so boring and the acting has gotten really bad . gary sinse and the crew do a very good job of acting . and then they put sela ward on and it really makes it better.
i would hope that they would consider cancelling csi miami first. that show has very good bad. csi ny is more appealing and real. gary sinse and the crew does a fabulous job. please reconsider.
NEVER SAY GOOD BYE TO GARY SINESE, THE BEST OF ALL CSI STARS
Just heard that CBS may cancel CSI NY, with all the other crap on TV I look foward to this show and hoping you re think this move. Alot of people will be very disappointed by another reality TV or comedy show.
It’s a great show. If they need to drop one, let it be CSI Miami and leave CSI NY on for a few more seasons.
CSI NY is the best of all of the CSI shows. Before canceling the show at least try another time slot. Or do what others have done and repeat it another night.
No it shouldn’t be canceled
I hate to see any of the CSIs cancelled. If you cancel any of them it will leave a hole in my TV week. I’m pretty sure I’ll fill that hole somewhere other than CBS based on your latest new shows, Gifted Man and Good Wife for example.
My problem with CSI NY is that they keep putting it up against other shows that are well known in their timeslots. I only have 3 tivos and that limits my recording ability. I have to see Supernatural, Grimm and Fringe since I’m up to date on all of their storylines so that leaves CSI NY out of the loop since I’m about two seasons behind on that storyline.
Put it up on Friday at 9pm CST and I guarantee you’ll get more watchers including ME!
Keep it in the 9:00 PM slot before Blue Bloods and it will bring in excellent numbers.
I stopped watching CSI: Las Vegas when William Petersen and Gary Dourdin left. I love Miami and NY and don’t want to see either of those two cancelled. I agree with the one poster though…I can always pick up a book and read it. Also agree with another poster that mentioned doing away with the rather inane sitcoms that rule the airways in the 6-8 pm time slots. IMO, those sitcoms AND the reality shows are an insult to the intelligence of most people.
Cable is outperforming the three mainstream networks by a far cry. Kudos to them.
As a boomer, if the networks only abide by the 18-49 demographic, all that will be left are so called reality shows, and ancient aliens and games. While the CSI programs are formalistic, they are about the only programs that have a basis in relatively sound science, have lead to a lot of interest for youngsters to explore these fields as potential career fields, and about the only programs that use science as a proof within the drama.
i wish you put c s i new york back on . you put stupitn show on like undercover boss who want to see a man spy onn his store if he can’t trust them get rid of them i hope you go to last place in the rating
I’ve enjoyed all the CSI shows, but if you have to axe one, can Las Vegas. The core characters are still good, but the constantly changing “starring” leads takes too much away. It certainly doesn’t add anything to the show. I record a lot of TV and watch it later, and CSI Las Vegas has definitely moved to the bottom of the “to watch” list.
why in blank didn u take c s i new york and put some stupit show in it’s place who want to watch a boss look at his staff if he don’t trust them let them go they must be doing a good job because he rich and the fast food place making monet put c s i back on
If CBS, in all its wisdom, just has to cancel a CSI show, please let it be Miami. The redhead with his hands on his hips and his and all the others’ inability to even act makes it the weakest of the three CSI’s. And, CBS, if you think that the 18-49 demographic group has the most disposable income, then what makes you think they stay at home and watch TV? They’re out spending that money on booze and good times. Those of us who watch TV are the over 55 who don’t have that much money any more and… Read more »
