It’s a dark time for fans of Dark Matter. Deadline reports Syfy has cancelled the TV show after three seasons.
The sci-fi drama follows the crew of a derelict spaceship who awake with no memory and who must work together to survive a threatening voyage charged with vengeance, betrayal, and plenty of secrets. The cast includes Marc Bendavid, Melissa O’Neil, Anthony Lemke, Alex Mallari Jr, Jodelle Ferland, Roger Cross, and Zoie Palmer.
Ratings for Dark Matter have been low for some time. Overall, season three averaged a .15 rating in the 18-49 demo and only 614,000 viewers, making it one of Syfy‘s lower-rated TV shows for the 2016-2017 season.
On his blog, co-creator Joseph Mallozzi confirmed the show’s cancellation and thanked the fans, cast, and crew:
It is with great sadness that I confirm the news. Syfy has cancelled Dark Matter after three seasons.
To say that I’m incredibly disappointed would be an understatement.
I’ll save my comments and field your questions in a future blog entry. For today, I just want to extend a heartfelt thanks to my amazing crew, my wonderful cast, and to all of you, our incredible fans.
You all deserved better.”
What do you think? Are you a fan of Dark Matter? Do you think Syfy should’ve renewed the series?
I feel like dark matter was a excellent show it was very entertaining and I never watched it till it went on Netflix and I think that’s why the views were so low because it was watched on Netflix rather that. Syfy
Wow, just seems weird, we loved this show figured “Kiljoys” was a goner but had high hopes for “Dark Matter”
This was a great show that started out kinda edgy and lost its way a little–Its as though they sold the idea of the first two seasons and then bailed on the rest of the story line. Still, I agree…if you want dvd money, you need to finish the story. scifi channel, your my fave, but this kinda pisses me off. I agree. they deserved better.
Im done with watching TV series that have yet to be completed, no one would buy a book with the last quarter missing, their not getting away with selling me an unfinished product anymore.
I thought the show WS well done. I’m sorry I missed it when on TV. It was just to become so much interesting. Going from war over power to one of human survival. Its too bad.
SAVE DARK MATTER! I never watched it on SyFy anyway. Who cares what they think! Netflix is a superior viewing experience, and they should keep Dark Matter going for the many fans who love it!
I agree. NETFLIX is king!
Please someone, anyone, Pick Up The Rest of The Show!!!!
SyFy is the worst for this. Tho I started watching it on Netflix Id like to know what their ratings for it were. The standard rating system is so broken now no one watches shows like they used to.
I totally agree!
I discovered “Dark Matter” on Netflix and loved it.
I was waiting eagerly for season 3 and just finished watching it on Netflix. I cannot believe the Syfy channel canceled this show.
I would love to see Netflix pick it up.
Can Netflix pick up the show please!!
Orville and Star Trek Discovery does not compare to Dark Matter. Sad to see Dark Matter canceled. Excellent writing kept the stories interesting and me surprised at the conclusion.
It’s rare that I watch TV for a specific show, this show was an exception and I am extremely disappointed but I should not be surprised as I just found out this was a SyFy series. They seem to like to cut good shows and will fund the crap shows. SyFy (like all the major entertainment / media corps), completely ignore that there are ALLOT of viewers that watch the show after initial airing (like on Netflix) which is what we do. there are at least another 20% – 30% that watch the show via some other venue. Also, advertising… Read more »
SyFy consistently drops great shows. Doubt I will watch anything else that is put out by SyFy. I am extremely disappointed.
One of my favorites, everything I like gets cancelled
This show kept me signed up for the Syfy channel. Very sad day. Hope someone else will pick it up.
This is why I guit watching SyFy, I heard about Dark Matter I fell in love with it, now I see it is cancelled. I doubt I will ever what SyFy again, because I know if it is a good show, well written, well acted, and a show that you can’t wait till the next episode, SyFy will cancel it
