Why did CBS just cancel most of their new TV shows? Recently, network boss Kelly Kahl spoke with Deadline about the decision to cancel Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, and God Friended Me.
With the exception of God Friended Me, which wrapped its second season this spring, all the shows cancelled debuted during the 2019-20 season. CBS also cancelled Man with a Plan, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Speaking to Deadline, Kahl revealed it was a “tough” decision to cancel Broke, God Friended Me, Carol’s Second Act, and Tommy:
At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows. You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye. It’s a tough call.”

Tommy was a really good show. It should be added to CBS All Access as a streaming show for the next season
Just loved and enjoyed Tommy very much this season. Such a worthy show to keep. Once again, one of the good ones just brushed aside. So very disappointed.
I think your making a mistake on canceling broke and man with a plan and carols seconf act it’s the reason I stay up and watch tv after my longboard day at work just wish you would not but it is what it is
Totally SHOCKED!! I loved Hod Friended Me, Enjoyed Tommy, and really enjoyed Carol’s Second Act along with Man With A Plan. Hate!!! B.S. reality tv shows. No idea what this Kelly Kahl was thinking. SHAME.
Not everyone has Netflix or extra 5000 different channels.

I am very disappointed to hear that Man With a Plan, God Friended Me, and Tommy are being cancelled. I would have watched them beyond another season. Man With a Plan is the best sitcom currently on air. God Friended Me was one if my favorite shows and tommy is a wonderful new show. It grabbed my attention right away. PLEASE reconsider your decision to cancel these shows. Thank you!
I loved God Friended Me. This is just the kind of show the world needs right now. Faith is so important especially right now. We are bombarded by sex and mindless programming. I feel that they really missed the mark with this cancellation. They should definitely re consider this one.
Sorry to see cancelation of really good shows. Will not invest time of watching new shows on CBS due to possible cancelation. So disappointed.
I will dearly miss GOD FRIENDED ME. Sure wish another network would pick it up.
Just can’t understand why a wonderful family show would get the ax but other really awful show go on and on…
I watched them all, Tommy and God Friended me were my favorites bring it back.
I watched Tommy and God Friended me. I was really invested in the characters. I enjoyed that they were one hour programs with a story to tell. I do not care for reality shows or 30 minute shows with 20 minutes of program and 10 minutes of repetitive commercials.
I will miss God Friended Me. I looked forward to it every Sunday & was so happy that it was renewed last season. It was a smart show with lots of plot twists & good acting. But I guess it needed smart viewers to appreciate it and God know there are not enough of us. Too many idiots watching bachelor’s & housewives. Why? I’ll never understand.
