Why did CBS just cancel most of their new TV shows? Recently, network boss Kelly Kahl spoke with Deadline about the decision to cancel Broke, Carol’s Second Act, Tommy, and God Friended Me.
With the exception of God Friended Me, which wrapped its second season this spring, all the shows cancelled debuted during the 2019-20 season. CBS also cancelled Man with a Plan, which is currently airing its fourth season.
Speaking to Deadline, Kahl revealed it was a “tough” decision to cancel Broke, God Friended Me, Carol’s Second Act, and Tommy:
At the end of the day they weren’t doing the numbers we were hoping for, and despite liking them creatively, knowing timely decisions were upon us, we had to make tough calls to move on from those shows. You want to keep them all for another season; that’s what makes these calls tough. You invest a lot of time and effort and people put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into these shows, and when you have to say goodbye. It’s a tough call.”

I. Think Carol ‘s Second Act was a waste of film. The title was wrong, and format. It was lacking substance. Most of ut was childish. I think it was a comedy its wasn’t funny. It didn’t grab your attention and watch me. It said here as though it was being thrown in your face. Tommy needed to be more relatiable. It was cut and dry. Tommy needs to come back on great show real life stories please put Tommy back an 1 hr.well worth it
I was very upset to hear that Tommy was being cancelled. I thought it was an excellent show with a wonderful cast. Please reconsider your decision.
Weren’t doing the numbers they were hoping for? What do you expect when you are competing with hundreds of TV stations and 30+ streaming services?
Execs need to wake up to the reality that the 90’s are over so they will never see “the numbers we are hoping for” ever again.

I really enjoyed both God friended me & Tommy. I am so sad to hear they are being canceled.
God friended me was a bright light during the Pandemic.
Tommy was equally as good, with a great leading lady & enough of a back story to keep me interested.
I was very upset that God Friended me and Tommy were cancelled. The only ones beside all the NCIS shows as well as Blue Bloods. really wish you would reconsider. I really enjoyed them.

I really enjoyed God Friended Me. It is an uplifting show especially during these unprecedented times that we’re in right now. Every show left you feeling good and inspired. It’s like no matter how bad things looked, you know that God got this. I hope there is a chance you will change your mind.
Really disappointed that God Friended Me & Tommy were canceled. Loved both shows! I know I’m not the only one who loved God friended me. Many friends of mine also loved show. Tommy was new, it was different. I loved it! Seeing a female head a Police Department was different. Tommy’s team of support was different. Made a fantastic show to watch. I realize Deputy was a different network but loved it as well and it was also canceled. The series “Tommy” had great promise. I liked the characters and stories so far.I”ll miss it.
God friended me, was a great show. I really enjoyed it. Tommy was another show that I enjoyed.
So sad that Tommy was cancelled. Really liked the show and feel that it would have found a bigger viewership in a second season.
I feel that most of the shows they canceled like God friended me, Broke ,Tommy what a shame with all this garbage on TV you have some good things going on here I’m so disappointed in CBS
Very very disappointed in CBS. God Friended Me and Man with a Plan are terrific shows. What will replace these shows? Some mindless reality show? What is needed are quality shows that give a warm feeling or some good laughs. Especially during this pandemic.
Please reconsider this really bad decision.
