After a disappointing debut last spring and a lackluster summer run, many were surprised that FOX kept The Good Guys on the fall schedule. In hindsight, FOX execs may be wondering why they did as well.
The Good Guys is an action comedy that pairs a washed-up, old-school cop (Bradley Whitford) with a young, by-the-book detective (Colin Hanks). Others in the series include Jenny Wade, Diana-Maria Riva, Jennifer Besser, Kimberly Lynn Campbell, Kennith Edwards, Nathan Fane, and Arthur Wooldridge.
The May premiere attracted a disappointing 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 4.93 million viewers. That put the TV show’s debut in fourth place in total viewership and tied for third in the coveted demographic with NBC’s Minute to Win It. Not a good start.
Over the summer, airing on Monday nights, Good Guys only mustered an average of a 1.2 rating in the demo and 4.01 million total viewers. FOX decided to cut the run short in August and saved the remaining new episodes for the fall season.
Unfortunately, Good Guys has been performing even worse this fall. The first episode attracted just a 0.9 demo rating and 2.8 million viewers. The ratings have fallen even lower since then, consistently placing in fifth place for the timeslot. Last Friday, viewership dropped 25% in the demo, hitting an all-time low with a 0.6 demo rating.
FOX has six episodes of Good Guys left and, understandably, there’s been no word about the network ordering any more. With ratings like these, the network will either pull the remaining episodes or just let them run out. Either way, it’s impossible to imagine that Good Guys won’t be cancelled.
What do you think? Do you like Good Guys? Why have people been watching other things on Friday nights? Anything you would change about the show?

Great wonderful funny show. Upbeat and full of smiles! There is no way that this show should be cancelled. if people aren’t watching it’s because it’s in the wrong time slot. Do not cancel. Please!!!!
Love this show, one of the very few I watch on FOX and am so glad I lucked into it. I look for it every week and have told friends about it. Bradley Whitford is a hoot and a great departure from the West Wing. Colin Hanks is a wonderful straight man. Unlike most TV, I actually have to pay attention to this show in order to keep up with the story line. Please keep it on.
I love this show so much! It is in a tough time spot and it definately isn’t advertised nearly enough! I think Fox needs to do its job with advertising the show and keeping it around. To clever and entertaining to cancel =(
This is the only program I ever watch on Fox anymore, if they cancel this show then I’ll simply have to relegate it to pbs and hallmark channel status.
Love the show, give it a chance. It’s like Nash Bridges in Dallas.
normally i avoid cop shows. but with the good guys being filmed in dallas i thought i would give it a chance…at least to see if i recognize the settings (swiss ave, deep ellum, etc). i was hooked from the start and it has to do with bradley whitford/dan. just to see his disdain for smarty phones and computer machines and then to see his fervor to bust some punks while greased in oil is a friday night win.
Personally I’m sick and tired of the 38 (or whatever) cop dramas that have riddled our TV nights like a plague. Good Guys was a nice change, and it will be a damn shame if they are not picked up by another network.
DAN STARK FOR PRESIDENT!!
In the stache we trust
I think this show is refreshing when compared to all the doom and gloom shows they are showing these days, it is nice to have something silly to laugh at!
First, it got it’s start in the summer behind House reruns. Who’s watching TV then? Then it gets moved to the 9PM friday “death slot”. We LOVE the show and even we missed 5 epsiodes because it’s an awful time. People are out on fridays. In short this is the best new show in a LONG time – clever, clean, funny and Dan Stark is the best new character on TV in AGES. They quit on this show already, then there is no hope for TV.
I love the show, really hate to see it go for another stupid reality show. Pretty lame people care so much about which stars dances, walks, or chews bubble gum, or why there is 15 CSI shows.
I don’t know how they get the ratings, but I think “The Good Guys” is a well acted and unique funny show, and the plots are good. We look forward to this show all week.
I love the show, I’ve been watching it every Friday. Dan Stark is hilarious and he has great chemistry with his partner!
Please don’t let this one go!! My wife and I have made this appointment TV. It’s fresh, different and funny.
Love this show–it’s up against stiff competition. Give it a chance!
Funny and clever show. Don’t cancel it! I’m going to get my Foghat fix now!
