Last week, after just two airings, ABC cancelled and pulled their new TV show, Of Kings and Prophets. Was the network too quick to pull the trigger? Were they justified?
Of Kings and Prophets is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. The story is told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd, David. The three are on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Jeanine Mason, Mohammad Bakri, David Walmsley, Louis Talpe, Nathaniel Parker, and Lyne Renée.
The series premiered on March 8th to a very disappointing 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.33 million viewers. The second episode saw the numbers drop even lower, falling to a 0.54 in the demo and just 2.42 million viewers. Those are terrible numbers for a major network and are likely some of the lowest that ABC has ever received.
One has to wonder if the ratings would have dropped even lower in week three or if they would have risen instead.
What do you think? Was ABC too quick to cancel and pull Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule or, was the network justified? Should it have been cancelled sooner?
Despite the fact that the show was not kept to the exact facts of the Bible, ABC should have kept it on. I really liked the show.
I really love this show! Growing up in a Christian home reading the Bible has never really been my thing but being able to watch it in a TV series really putting an image in my head and to help understand the plot has been really entertaining! If they can bring the show back that would be awesome I don’t care if I’m the only one watching it I love the dramatization of the biblical story.
I love it so much and was very disappointed this morning when I got ready to watch. The world needs more shows like this. I am tired of the nonsense being showed on television nowadays. ABC should bring it back and finish the show, regardless of the reviews. Blessings!
What a rip off. I was liking this show a lot. I even got my teenage son to watch and he was excited to watch and can barely get him interested in anything. Cut off way too soon.
ABC really didnt give it a chance, plus being the week of Easter, why not see if it has better ratings. Personally I hope the history channel will air it! The bible was a success with them, im sure this would be too! They know how to advertise for it to be a success!
Woow this is some Bull **** canceled after two episodes
I really liked it, very well done, I was looking forward to the next
I liked it quite a bit. I believe it is a quite good representation of the biblical story. The sexual content wasn’t at all disturbing. After Game of Thrones our cinema changed 😀
No ABC made the right decision cancelling it. You have to have viewers DUH.
my intent was to DVR all 10 episodes then binge watch. instead I’ve watched the first two & I’m now awaiting ABC’s straight to video of the remaining. I quite enjoyed the biblical portrayal
Cancelled to quickly, the remaing episodes were the core of the story, the best yet to come. Thst was senseless. Why going over the edge with a vible story showing so much negativity so early if it s biblical. Thats my only doubt on this entire saga though. The senseless killings of innocents unarmed & the extra sexual activities too early on a family based channel might have drawn people away, but i was ready to watch then entire series. Maybe a network like starz should take it over because look how well Their Spartacus Series did ALL OVER THE… Read more »
Yes. I think the series too soon! The show was being aired at 9 pm sooooo what’s the problem? The family should read the Bible together they will see these were the events that were depicted in the bible. I am really disappointed. Really disappointed!
I was surprised the show was cancelled after only two episodes. That is disappointing.
I liked the show. I’m sad it’s being pulled
I was enjoying the new show. Now I willhesitate to watch a new show, and wait for it to come up on Netflix
Might have done better rating wise if it had been on a different night or in different time slot. Too many viewers were already committed to The People vs O J Simpson which aired on FX at the same time
