Last week, after just two airings, ABC cancelled and pulled their new TV show, Of Kings and Prophets. Was the network too quick to pull the trigger? Were they justified?
Of Kings and Prophets is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. The story is told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd, David. The three are on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Jeanine Mason, Mohammad Bakri, David Walmsley, Louis Talpe, Nathaniel Parker, and Lyne Renée.
The series premiered on March 8th to a very disappointing 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.33 million viewers. The second episode saw the numbers drop even lower, falling to a 0.54 in the demo and just 2.42 million viewers. Those are terrible numbers for a major network and are likely some of the lowest that ABC has ever received.
One has to wonder if the ratings would have dropped even lower in week three or if they would have risen instead.
What do you think? Was ABC too quick to cancel and pull Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule or, was the network justified? Should it have been cancelled sooner?
and one more thing before i forget this my wife and i work a lot and we dont catch many but we did our best to catch this one oh and o.a.n we like to record shows even if we watch them so we can then go back and binge and pick the shows apart foe better understanding but this is one of the greatest stories well true stories eve told and u guys over there just threw it out after two episodes so remember this story has been loved for hundreds and thousands of years so lets be super… Read more »
Man this was a great show i think they should change the time slot and give it another go i mean with people already tied into shows that are already popular in the same slot no wonder u guys didnt get the reviews u wanted i mean come on u guys ..yes its true u guys have been at this for many moons ABC but no one hits it on the head all the time listen to your viewers do some more advertising of the show in a new slot and watch the magic people
I am unsure how the viewers are calculated, or how the network knew so little people were watching it. I was watching, looks like a few others, but did the network know I was and how? Point of the matter is it looks like people were wanting to see it and it was pulled way too soon. Good way to lose viewers. Especially one like myself who doesn’t watch much of the local channels. May want to rethink pulling a show so fast until you get all the information on who is actually watching it. Good luck on getting me… Read more »
I am so disappointed ! I was thrilled with this program and was telling people about it that didn’t even hear about it being aired ! It was on at 10 which is a bit late for the working person but I stayed up ! ABC please at least give us a chance to purchase the entire series on DVD…I want it at any cost!!! Thank God the first 2 are saved on the DVR !
That’s all you people ever think about are ratings, you didn’t give the show enough time to even see if it were going to take off . I recorded the show to watch cause I’m unable to watch at the time it came on. I am so disappointed. You people at ABC are crazy. Put it back on.
I am so disappointed that this show is cancelled. I looked forward to the third episode because I enjoyed the first two so much. It was so well done. It is sad to see that a show of substance is less popular than these so-called reality shows. I guess some people enjoy watching trivial shows where they don’t have to think. I hope that enough people protest and it will be brought back.
I really enjoyed watching the two episodes while in travel mode. I was looking forward to the rest of the season. Acting and story line was fine. Photography and locations etc. also good – but what is it with America when it comes to historical series? Not good enough? Most US series appear to evolve around super heroes, vampires, zombies and police work. Don’t you all get a bit tired of that?
I am Agnostic but also a viewer of this 2 episode show. I actually thought it was great. I have been waiting for the 3rd episode to air and when it hadn’t i went to find out when it would and found this. How disappointing. I don’t understand how after only 2 episodes of a show this network barely advertised they can decide to cancel it.
Want it back. Sick of them pulling shows before the whole season is shown. How about you pick a good day where it’s not up against shows that have been on forever. Give us the whole season.
I’m very sad! And I’m so disappointed that instead the shark tank will be aired. We already have enough of this type of shows.
Really – tired of coming down on Christian shows. How about freedom of speech. Probably afraid of the truth
Disappointed, I was really looking forward to seeing the rest of the series. I fill like there aren’t enough biblical shows shown on TV. I was enjoying this one and am very upset that it’s canceled. They should have kept it for the 2 million viewers that were enjoying.
It was a great show I’m very disapointed. So what next another stupid bachelor or reality show that it takes NO brains to watch. Come on board Netflix
Come on!! This was mostly accurate. Please Netflix get this series!!
This is extremely disappointing! I have been waiting for the next episodes to come out and found this blog. Shame on you ABC for giving in to little ratings. There are some people in this country that actually enjoy watching this program!
