Last week, after just two airings, ABC cancelled and pulled their new TV show, Of Kings and Prophets. Was the network too quick to pull the trigger? Were they justified?
Of Kings and Prophets is based on the Biblical Books of Samuel. The story is told through the eyes of the battle-weary King Saul, the resentful prophet Samuel, and the resourceful young shepherd, David. The three are on a collision course with destiny. The cast includes Ray Winstone, Olly Rix, Simone Kessell, James Floyd, Haaz Sleiman, Maisie Richardson-Sellers, Jeanine Mason, Mohammad Bakri, David Walmsley, Louis Talpe, Nathaniel Parker, and Lyne Renée.
The series premiered on March 8th to a very disappointing 0.77 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 3.33 million viewers. The second episode saw the numbers drop even lower, falling to a 0.54 in the demo and just 2.42 million viewers. Those are terrible numbers for a major network and are likely some of the lowest that ABC has ever received.
One has to wonder if the ratings would have dropped even lower in week three or if they would have risen instead.
What do you think? Was ABC too quick to cancel and pull Of Kings and Prophets off the schedule or, was the network justified? Should it have been cancelled sooner?
I wished they would of at least advertised it more then what they did. I love shows like this, but had no ideal this program was even on. ABC didn’t even give it a chance to take off.
Seriously? 2 episodes? Unreasonably quick on the trigger. Not everyone wants to watch only reality TV. Some of us enjoy biblical history. It would be nice if you’d at least air the episodes in the can
My husband and I were looking for a new series and came across this one. We are history buffs and have really enjoyed Marco Polo on Netflix. We were looking for a similar show and started watching this one. The acting was suburb, the graphics was excellent, and the action appeared historically accurate. We were disappointed that it was cancelled after 2 episodes. It is not a show for children and was at an appropriate time slot for adults. Hopefully another network or company will pick it up because it is worth pursuing. It is a good show with a… Read more »
I’m with you. I love history and especially biblical history. It’s too bad most programming is geared towards millenials and those with no attention spam. Hoping they’ll at least air the rest they filmed
Another mistake for ABC …they really need to reassess the judgement of the staff who have the power to set the line ups for their shows. This series had a chance to become an epic regardless of subject matter. They tripped and fell at the starting line without realizing what they had in their hands. Bigotry will sink you every time.
Please bring the show back my gosh dying to watch it!!! Make a plan come on guys really.
I’m wondering if using the 18 – 49 demographic was a fair assessment. There is another age group watching tv and we are growing as time goes on. Why yes, it’s the baby boomers! Was it the subject matter? Are the networks afraid to have a biblical series?
I was sooooooooo sad to see this cancelled. I looked forward each week and even told others how good I thought it was. Was so looking forward to episode 3 where David slated Goliath. This is so sad because it was an awesome program!
So how many complaints or requests does it take before this excellent show is brought back?
As usual a real ‘reality’ history based show gets cancelled due to poor advertising of the show and allowing the unwanted voice of Parental Group be heard. This was ‘is’ a great show to be on tv to teach as well as entertain as I found it to do right from the start. Too bad to see you go!!
Considering this is the first time I have heard of this show, I think that says something about there advertising of it. I am disappointed that the first time I hear of it is to hear it is cancelled. I would definitely have watched it had I known about it.
Why is it anytime there’s a series out that reflects on Christian values, Biblical facts, and good old fashioned family values are networks so quick to pull them? Yet in a society that is driven by greed drugs, violence and a utter lack
Of Christian values do we promote movies, series, reality shows that do nothing but promote the very things tearing families apart????
I am very disappointed to see this show cancelled. Figures anything Biblical gets the harshest criticism given the state of anti-Christain in this country! I thought it was well done and very true to the Bible. ABC is a joke.
Please, have the show back on abc. I was already hooked. It is a great show. Bring it back please.
ABC is appeasing more and more to the secular audiences which is ashamed. There aren’t that many shows for the non-secular viewers these days. Give the show a chance to catch on, two episodes is hardly enough to determine to kill it. I love what I’ve seen so far, bring it back please!
I am so disappointed! I was hooked and looking forward to seeing episode 3. I dvr’d the first two and realized nothing recorded for 3/22. So I googled and found that this great show was cancelled. I want the entire series please, make it for purchase.
