Though its performance hasn’t been stellar, FOX has finally ordered a full season of Lie to Me. What does this mean for the sophomore drama’s future?
Lie to Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth), a human lie detector, and his team of experts who help law officials solve their most difficult cases. The cast also includes Kelli Williams, Brendan Hines, Mekhi Phifer, and Monica Raymund.
The dramatic series is currently in a plum spot on the FOX schedule, sitting behind successful House on Monday nights. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold onto much of the Hugh Laurie show’s audience. This past week, for example, House was first in the 18-49 demographic (4.6) and second in total viewers (11.95 million), opposite the Dancing with the Stars finals. Lie to Me shed 40% of the lead-in audience in both areas, attracting a 2.7 and 7.16 million.
Despite the so-so ratings performance, FOX has finally given the drama a full season and ordered nine additional installments. The decision comes several weeks after the decision to order more episodes of other shows like Glee and The Cleveland Show.
It will be some time before viewers see these episodes of Lie to Me however. The drama will be leaving the airwaves in mid-January, making way for the return of 24. FOX has indicated that Lie to Me will return at some point in the spring.
Unfortunately, the full season order is more likely of an indication that FOX anticipates they’ll be needing more original programming than their being satisfied with Lie to Me’s performance. What’s more, the show being put on hiatus isn’t likely to help the ratings.
At this point, Lie to Me looks like it will be firmly “on the bubble” come May. A third season isn’t assured and the show’s future will likely be decided by the strengths or weaknesses of FOX’s pilots for the 2010-11 season.
What do you think? Is Lie to Me worth watching or do you think FOX could do better? Would you move it to another night rather than put it on hiatus?

Please don’t take ‘Lie to Me’ off. This is one of the best shows that I’ve seen in a long time. Tm Roth, as always, is superb and perfect for the role. He interacts well with the other characters.
Lie to me is an example of great writing, acting and directing. Every show is an interesting and intriguing mystery. The premise – that there is a science to detecting lies – is itself fascinating. Clearly it is way above the level of the morons who run Fox. it should be cancelled and replaced by something mindless. Otherwise it will just stick out. Fox is about fitting in.
I see they’re starting to play “reruns”..I hope that means they’re building up to starting it up again….don’t disappoint us now!! 😉
We have enjoyed this show so much and have been waiting with bated breath for it’s return!! NOW – it’s going to be in June, or ?? Please bring it back – who cares who can dance with a star – as an entertainer I find that show very UN-entertaining.
I WATCHED IT 4 THE 1ST TIME IN A CLASS THAT I’M TAKING AND I WAS SO INTO IT! ITS VERY ENTERTAINING AND I LOOK 4WD 2 WATCHING IT IF POSSIBLE!
I definitely want “Lie To Me” to come back. It’s fun to learn about the way they read people by just watching their reactions and compare these facial reactions to real people. Plus it’s unique in the way they catch people, compared to so many shows out there. I watch TV to be entertained and this show does exactly that. BRING IT BACK!!!
This is a very good show. I would like to see the show come back on TV after House of on a different day in the week. It is a unique show and we need this on TV
Awesome show!!! One of the best on TV — bring it back as soon as you can — we’ve waited long enough!
well, Fox just ‘lied to me’ when it showed preview for Lie to Me yesterday, tues April 27, that it was coming on tonight Wed April 28. Come to find out the next 3 eps of Lie to Me on FOX are Repeats Not New 2nd Season. Was so excited! Ok, FOX, where is Season Two of Lie to Me??????? Waiting for it to show up!
I think this is a great show. One of the few I find worth watching on T.V. these days. There are way to many “reality” shows and “how to shows on. I watch T.V. to be entertained with interesting plots and characters and I find “Lie To Me” is a refreshing twist to the run of the mill crime dramas that are currently getting a little long in the tooth for me. So please keep this show on the air. I am looking forward to the new episodes.
Lie to Me is the best show on Fox! They deserve another season.
Lie to Me is one of the best series I have seen to date. I think Tim Roth is a perfect human lie detector in the way that he stares into people’s eyes even when they look away. The misfit ex-baggage checker makes for an interesting intern, and her unpaid young male counterpart that cannot tell a lie makes the show even more interesting. Wow, can you think of any talent worse than knowing every single time someone lies to you?
It is DEFINATELY a show worth watching. A differenct aspect to crime solving then guns and brute force type shows.
Lie to Me is one of the most entertaining shows on television and is a family favorite. Please see to it that we can enjoy it for as long as possible. We will always watch.
I love the show and have the first season on DVD. Please bring it back. I really missed seeing it. I love it!
