TV show description:
A new take on the family comedy, this series divides each episode into quarters. One quarter focuses on a branch of the Short family before bringing them together for the conclusion.
At the top of the family tree are John (James Brolin) and Joan (Dianne Wiest). Although in their twilight years, the pair are still very much in love and aren’t shy about their active sex life. John, about to turn 70, worries he hasn’t much time left and obsesses with his own funeral plans.
In his early thirties, Matt (Thomas Sadoski) still lives at home. This arrangement is proving awkward for his own romantic affairs with co-worker Colleen (Angelique Cabral). Her ex-fiance and dog are struggling to come to terms with the breakup.
Highly traumatized by the horror of childbirth are first-time parents Greg (Colin Hanks) and Jen (Zoe Lister-Jones). They are also shocked to have been released from the hospital with a newborn baby and no training manual.
Taking their son Tyler (Niall Cunningham) to University, eldest sibling Heather (Betsy Brandt) and her husband Tim (Dan Bakkedahl) are also dealing with change. Reluctantly letting their son fly from the nest, Tyler is packed off with a sandwich and some fatherly advice on losing his virginity. Both are unwelcome.
Episode #79 — Reverse Burden District Germany
When Tim and Heather realize that being grandparents is very far off in the future, they decide to have another baby. Also, Joan gets frustrated when she keeps getting tasked with watching the grandkids; Jen and Greg decide to look for a new house; and Matt gets a job offer in Germany, which is problematic for Colleen and Lucas.
First aired: June 27, 2019.
What do you think? Do you like the Life in Pieces TV show? Do you think it should have been cancelled or renewed for a fifth season?
I should have known if my husband and I laugh and enjoy a well written script it is the kiss of death. We hooked our adult children and other relatives on this funny, funny show. Why do networks continue to promote reality TV and dumbed down sitcoms? Please don’t cancel Life in Pieces
I am really sorry to learn this show was canceled. I was well cast, well-written and very entertaining.
We so enjoyed this show…watch reruns almost every day. Did not know show was cancelled until we just saw a Tim on the Goldberg’s …please bring it back. So much laughter..
I loved this show. It was so well written and clever.
such a well written show.
a great half hour.
wish it could have had a longer run.
Why, oh why, do major networks fail to see that MANY of us solidly prefer to see a smart, well-written show rather than reality t.v. drivel? Shameful. This show has it all – great writing, great acting and comedic heart. Look forward to watching it get picked up on a more visionary network!
One of the most refreshing comedies in a long time. It is so sad that CBS canceled such a great show and should reconsider!
Great show. Looked forward to it! So wish it would return.
Great show, great writers, and the cast is top notch. Very sorry to see yet another main stream TV program discontinued. Will miss the great laughs.
Loved loved loved this show. Why would they cancel. Sooooo sad.
I’m so unhappy that “Life in Pieces”was cancelled. We could not wait to watch it every week.
So many stars were cast in the show. Great story lines ,refreshing way to tell their stories.
I just don’t understand how you can keep so many bad shows on the air & cancel the good ones
Please reconsider this cancellation.
“Life in Pieces” which never received one emmy nomination, is being cancelled after 4 seasons (79 episodes). This is an absolute disgrace for one of the best written, acted shows on television. CBS made a big mistake….just because you don’t own the show (CBS) doesn’t mean you have to cancel it….Quality sometimes should surpass, and putting it in a good time slot. This is a sad day in television. I hope we see the wonderful Dianne Wiest in television again.
renewed – great show – I hope they do come back.
Of course it’s being cancelled. God forbid they have a show that doesn’t have sex, nudity, foul language, blood, etc. (said in my most sarcastic tone)
Like the others writing here I am so sad and disappointed that Life in Pieces is canceled. This was the best show on television. So many other shows are low brow and senseless. This was a quality show and we’ve laughed out loud during every episode. Brilliant actors and writing made this one of the best ever. I hope CBS is smart enough to reconsider or another smart network picks it up. CBS, cancelling this show is a really bad decision!
