Not long ago, A&E unveiled their latest dramatic TV series, Longmire. Breakout Kings, another A&E show about lawkeepers, was recently cancelled. Will Longmire outlast it or quickly follow it to the TV graveyard?
Taking place in a fictional Wyoming county, Longmire revolves around Sheriff Walt Longmire as he tries to get back on his feet following the death of his wife. With the help of his daughter (Cassidy Freeman), his new deputy (Katee Sackhoff), and his best friend (Lou Diamond Phillips), Walt decides to run for re-election against a young deputy (Bailey Chase) in the department who also wants the position.
The TV show debuted on June 3rd to a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 4.15 million total viewers.

That was a very good premiere for the cable channel and was actually the biggest in A&E’s history. Longmire was the third most-watched cable show of the night, only falling behind the NBA playoff game on ESPN and Game of Thrones on HBO.
New TV shows typically fall in their second week on the air but Longmire bucked that trend and actually grew. Last night’s episode drew about the same in total viewership but gained about 22% in the demo.
Unless the numbers hit a serious nosedive, Longmire is assured of a second season renewal. In fact, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t announced soon. It looks like A&E has a hit.

I can’t believe a&e canceled Longmire. With all the stupid shows on tv today, it was refreshing to have a great show like Longmire . I couldn’t wait for it each week. They said it was because of the older crowd. Well the older crowd stays home at night,while your target group 18-35 go out and party or they are toostoned to know whats on tv. You have made a big big mistake. I hope tnt or some other network has the sense to pick it up.
Typical of A&E. They keep the Duck Dynasty and cancel Longmire. A&E is like everyone else in TV production; they don’t know their audience. Let’s see if some other network has the brains to produce Longmire.

What idiot decided to cancel Longmire? Finally a great western show with wonderful actors and storylines. Yet the crappy reality shows are being renewed! I am really disappointed in A&E.

I miss LONGMIRE so much. My disabled son who is in a wheelchair, who is unable to do much is heart broken hearted over Longmire’s cancellation. This is his favorite show. Please return it.

they are keeping the stupid duck dynasty and they cancel a really great show like longmire. they cancelled glades without ending leaving the main character shot and laying on the floor on his wedding day. KEEP LONGMIRE, REPEAT KEEP LONGMIRE

I am A “BABY BOOMER” (68yr.) I buy products advertised on this program.As do a large number of BOOMERS…!The reason given for this show (Longmire) no longer being aired by A&E is totally baseless. I guess Great writting and Great acting does not mean anything to this network. Rethink your stupid misguided decision.
Keep It On The Air
The people that should be cancelled are the knuckle heads that made the decision to cancel longmire. Longmire is one of the best shows on t.v. Those reality shows are the most stupid shows on t.v. why does A&E calls themselves arts and entertainment. But the way they handle decisions, it should be called absolute trash because of what they show on their station. NO MORE A&E FOR ME……..
