The Tiffany Network is still with her. CBS has renewed its Madam Secretary TV show for a fifth season. This was a real squeaker. With the series’ bottom-of-the-barrel demo performance, as well as its declining total audience size, since it already has a decent syndication package, the cancellation chances were very real.
A CBS political drama, Madam Secretary stars Téa Leoni, Tim Daly, Bebe Neuwirth, Željko Ivanek, Keith Carradine, Sebastian Arcelus, Patina Miller, Geoffrey Arend, Erich Bergen, Kathrine Herzer, Wallis Currie-Wood, and Evan Roe. The drama follows the shrewd, determined Elizabeth McCord (Leoni). As U.S. Secretary of State, she battles office politics, while driving diplomacy and negotiating global deals.
Madam Secretary: A Look at the Ratings
The fourth season of Madam Secretary is averaging a 0.65 rating in the 18-49 demographic and 6.20 million viewers. Compared to season three, that’s down by 26% and down by 25%, respectively. When we sort the 25 scripted CBS TV shows we’ve been tracking, it ranks 24th in the demo (behind Saturday night’s Ransom) and rises to only 16th place, when sorted by average total viewership.

What do you think? Do you still like the Madam Secretary TV series? Did you expect CBS to cancel or renew it for season five? Do you think the fifth installment will be the show’s final one? Let us know, below.
Great show! but bad timing on when it is shown. Need to schedule for a time slot that is not so commonly preempted for things. Helps keep the following interested.
I do not like wondering if a favorite show will be on or not at its usual day/time. It’s frustrating.
I LOVE THIS SHOW I WISH IT WAS ON A DIFFERENT NIGHT, WHY IS IT ALWAYS LATE BECAUSE OF FOOTBALL.
I’m in Melbourne, Australia & have watched this show avidly since it began & I’m looking forward to it continuing for at least one more season.
Love this show so much. Please do not cancel it any time soon.
Madam Secretary is a great show!! Bad programming strategy behind it. Do us a favor, and Change your scheduling. Also make this available on your apps without costing us an arm and a leg. I had to wait to see the last season on Netflix because of the inconveniences and hassle it was. The concept is to make it easy to watch, maybe?
In my opinion, Madame Secretary of one of the finest scripts and cast on TV today. It gives the world an alternative prospective that allows us all to remember our True Essence and how it can be Present in balance with all the challenges of being Human. It gives me hope that our government might actually have people in office who really care and listen to what the ‘people’ want and need to live in Peace with the opportunity to express and contribute each of our special unique gifts that we were born to share with the world. I deeply… Read more »
Madam Secretary is a great show. It is a favorite of our family. However, it is scheduled erratically and is frequently preempted. Hopefully the series will be shown more regularly; same night, same time slot and weekly during the season.
I really enjoy each of the renewed series and I thank CBS for their foresight in continueing them.
I absolutely love Madam Secretary! It is great to escape from reality- especially in the current political environment- to see how our US government should operate- ethical and balanced.
This is my favorite show of all time – it somehow gives me hope that good ideals might still exist. I hope that good tv and sharing those values to promote the same in real life will continue and not be sacrificed to the brainless glib that may somehow have “higher ratings”. I would love to see this show continue for years to come!
One of the best programmes on tv I hate it when I see season finale, It means Months without it lol. So glad it’s not been cancelled, far to many decent shows get cancelled and we’re left wandering. Season 5 seems set up to be a great one with her wanting to run for president. It’s one of the closest “realistic ” programs on tv. I absolutely love it. I’d look toward to a new title once she gets president. “Madame president” keep the seasons coming cbs.
Madam Secretary is the best show on television–period. Pleses keep it on for Season 5 and beyond. It shows a brilliant and powerful woman who is able to successfully juggle all the demands placed upon her. She manages her extremely demanding political job, she has three wonderful kids to raise who encounter many of the issues in society today– both the moral/ethical issues and social media’s influence, she maintains a wonderful relationship with her brilliant Professor husband and they actually do an awesome job of co-parenting and still making intimate time for each other.( I look forward to the show… Read more »
Thoroughly enjoy Madam Secretary. Shows the complexities or diplomacy..difficult decisions..tackles ethical issues..shows decent people who are involved in politics because they actually want to serve. May have more things work out for the good more often than is realistic, but it also isn’t afraid to have things sometimes fail. Overall it gives me hope.
I love Madame Secretary; brilliant acting with wonderful storylines. I
n addition, it is great to see moral characters who really consider the consequences of their actions (unlike some of our real life politicians!)
This is an awsome and well presented show. One of my favorites and a dvr staple. Thrilled CBS picked up Season 5
Me, too! Excited about Season 5. The finale of Seasob 4 was terrifying and mirrored what has come close to actually happening.
One of my favorites shows please keep going give us hope in today’s political sad environment.
