MASK is back in action. According to USA Today, the ’80s animated series is being made into a new comic book.
A hybrid of GI Joe and The Transformers, MASK (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand) originally ran for 75 episodes between 1985 and 1986.
The new comic comes from IDW and will feature new elements in addition to several “throwbacks” from the original series, says writer Brandon Easton:
This is a M.A.S.K. for the 21st century with a diverse team of specialists who are chosen for a top-secret program with a painful learning curve. Ultimately, each participant will have to choose a side — and no matter which side they choose, the consequences will be great.”
Artist Tony Vargas says the comic will incorporate “color combinations and vital identifiable components” form the original series as well.
The MASK comic book is expected for release later this year.
