Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will be back on the big screen next month, and there is already word of a new reboot series in the works. This will not be your traditional Power Rangers you watched as a kid though!
The Power Rangers are going R-rated for their next series if these plans move forward. Adi Shankar revealed his plans for a new Power Rangers series in an interview with Polygon. He said the following:
“It’s a complete retelling of the first three seasons. And it’s going to be really … dark. Darker than any other Power Rangers series. If you look at what shows are like today, they’re long movies. It’s a format paradigm and I want to explore creating these types of new shows with Power Rangers. We’re going to focus on the beats of what made each show great and turn that into one, entirely new Power Rangers series.”
Shankar would like to bring the series to Netflix in the next 18 months. He said the following about his approaching Netflix for the new series:
“Netflix is doing what every other network should be doing. I’ve worked with almost every network and Netflix just gets it. The world we live in now has disrupted the idea of what entertainment is and Netflix gets it.”
Would you watch a R-Rated Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? Tell us what you think.
You can’t just do a remake of Power Rangers – permission has to be granted by Saban and Toei and probably a million other people in between. It would likely tarnish brand reputation and I can’t see Saban or Toei allowing that.
Who watched Power Rangers in the 90’s? Well here is what the actors look like now.
R-Rated Power Rangers series? No way! I prefer to see PG-13-Rated Power Rangers series.
I preferred the Power Rangers at PG-13 when i actually was 13, Lets do an adult version and a pg-version. We were all kids one day, grew up, and our time is due, stop treating us like kids just take my f’n money for an adult version!
No. It’s like in the 90s, everyone wanted to write “adult fanfics” swearing, death, and sex. Thing is… only inept 12 year olds were writing it. I guess they still want to.
How does that make sense? If it’s a PG-13 movie then we can assume the writers are putting themselves into the shoes of 12 year olds or so, that being said by extension, a PG-13 movie is being written by actual 12 year olds and the R rated one will be written by ADULTS. We are not babies we are adults, i will never watch a PG-13 movie of TPR but i will go more than once to watch it R because it caters to me. We deserve it and so do you, were not at the age to *****… Read more »
