News recently surfaced that, in light of NBC’s cancellation of My Name Is Earl, TBS was interested in picking up the show for 13 new episodes. The cable channel currently airs the first three seasons and is scheduled to add season four in the Fall.
Unfortunately, all sides weren’t able to come to an agreement so there won’t be a fifth season of the sitcom. The Hollywood Reporter reports that series creator Greg Garcia and producing studio 20th Century Fox TV decided not pursue the deal after looking at the necessary budget cuts. Meanwhile, the LA Times believes that TBS felt they wouldn’t be able to afford the show and cut the discussions short. Either way, the end result’s the same.
Yesterday, actor Ethan Suplee (Randy on Earl) indicated that the deal was still possible. On Twitter, he wrote, “I heard TBS MIGHT stand for TheBestStation.” Earlier today, he changed his tune and wrote, “TBS isn’t TheBestStation for reviving Earl. Good news is I’m now available to play Shia Laboof’s better looking brother in Transformers 3.”
A little while ago, 20th Century Fox TV issued a statement that said, “Greg Garcia’s brilliant My Name Is Earl kept America laughing for the past four seasons and certainly deserved to continue for many more.”
“While we had hoped to find a way to produce additional episodes for TBS, in the final analysis we simply could not make the economics work without seriously undermining the artistic integrity of the series. As none of us, Greg included, want the show to go out on anything but a high note, we regret that we must put to rest any speculation that Earl will continue.”
“We are grateful to everyone at TBS for their enthusiasm for the series and wish to offer our heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew of My Name Is Earl for their incredible work.”
So, the sitcom is apparently over. Unfortunately, the viewers have been left hanging. If you had your choice, how would you like to see the Earl story concluded?

I just found out Earl was cancelled! My birthday is today so with some of the money I got for my birthday earlier this week I ran out and bought the 4th season of Earl. I was very surprised to see “The Final Season” on the cover. Somehow I missed the announcement that they were cancelling it. I have a small child now and don’t watch a lot of tv, but thursday nights were my time to sit and watch Earl and The Office. I am so dissapointed that Earl is not on anymore!!! What a horrible decision by the… Read more »

Another one!! Seriously…. NBC you are making very poor decisions in your cancellations. Life and My Name is Earl. WOW….you still want to be watched right???
I looked forward to Earl every week. Shame on the network for leaving us hanging!!!
My Name Is Earl showed that Americans can write really clever comedy above the usual tripe that the networks produce. I am in Australia and the show is one of the funniest things on television and I will miss my weekly fix the show provides.
Bring it back, dummies! Look what happened when you canned Star Trek!
Hey! No Brain Company,
Why would you do such a dumb thing and now we have office2 aka parks and rec come on guys wake up! A movie is a good idea give us closure or just some more laughs…
EARL MOVIE!!! End it right!
My husband and I loved that show, it was our favorite show! We miss it.
We need an Earl movie.
I was sad to here the news. It was a show that had a great cast and was alot of fun to watch. I have been buying the dvds Lately and was looking foward to the next season. It was one of the few shows i even liked anymore. I’m from arkansas and this show rang true to the type of humor i grew up with. Hopefully maybe a movie could be made to bring the show to a finale. I would love to see ethan and jason in a movie together again. They have a chemistry of brotherhood that… Read more »
Okay so I am looking around trying to figure out when all the great shows come on and I am here reading this horrible news! I am completly shocked that a network would pass up the chance to have a sitcom that draws this much support. I can not believe that a show that has this type of following would be cancelled and leave the viewers with a cliffhanger. It is a seriously evil thing they have done and sadly I must say that NBC doesn’t really have that great of shows anyways so this was in my opinion their… Read more »
as alot of people say they should finish his list and then do something else so they should atleast finish the list really i look up to the cast of my name is earl this makes me sad i hope they re think and let earls finish his list
the series shouldnt end realy a lot of hard working americans would be realy heart broken and we didnt even find out whose earl jr dad the should keep going until he finishes his list
I would not be so bothered if there was a series finale. I would imagine Earl completing his list and living happily in Camden County with all the rest of the characters. The last episode would bring closure to all of their story arcs: Randy would live happily ever after with Catalina, Joy would settle in nicely with Darnell and the boys, even if neither are his, and maybe throw in happy endings for a few of the others would be nice too.
I can’t belive My Name is Earl will not come back!!! As much as the show is loved by sooooo many and they are going to put some stupid show that is going to flop in its place. Who is running this thing? What an Idiot!!! This is the first and only show that my husband and I have both loved! I am so sorry to see it go. Guess we will just have to hope Fox or another network can come up with something good…
