Backstrom aired on FOX last midseason, but the network cancelled the series, which starred Rainn Wilson, after just one season on the air. The move shocked loyal fans that stuck with the series during its short 13-episode first season.
Rainn Wilson has now shared his opinion about why FOX cancelled Backstrom at the end of his first season. He shared those thoughts during a Reddit AMA held over the weekend.
About Backstrom’s cancellation, he said:
“Backstrom was such a great show. We were on a terrible time slot. Got hammered in the reviews. And people just didn’t give us a chance. Too bad! Oh well.”
Wilson is possibly better known as his role of Dwight from The Office, and he shared memories he had working on that NBC series during that AMA Reddit as well.
When a fan asked him what he missed about The Office, he said:
“I loved seeing my other family every morning – laughing together. I really miss that.”
Are you a fan of Rainn Wilson? Were you sad that FOX cancelled Backstrom? Did you watch The Office? Tell us what you think.
I thought it was a great show. And got better with each episode.
There is such a void for for smart complex crime drama. There are a lot of crime procedural. Rarely do they shake things up from their bland format. Last season Backstrom and Battle Creek were trying to bring back smart character driven crime procedurals. I was hoping it was going kick off a desire for more smarter crime dramas on broadcast tv.
I couldn’t agree more!
I loved it. Wish they would change there minds. Something different it was nice but some people don’t know a good show when they watch one. Made me think and laugh at the same time. I loved his dry humor and so much more. So sad
Completely agree with carol !
i liked Backstrom. it was a little rout around the edges but as the series proogressed it was starting to smooth out as you got familiar with the characters. it had more of a original theme than most i also liked that it seemed to go into dark places as well as silly places which made it more interesting. the network should have given it more time to find a audience and develop the characters
